The Legend of Zelda: Sound & Drama
The Legend of Zelda: Sound & Drama is the official soundtrack of A Link to the Past, also featuring music from The Legend of Zelda.
Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Sound & Drama is a 2-CD set released in Japan only on June 22, 1994, several years after the release of A Link to the Past. It was published by Sony Records and features music composed by Koji Kondo.
The first CD features eight arrangements of songs from the game, and a 17-minute "sound drama" performed in Japanese. The songs were arranged by Yoshiyuki and Masumi Ito, who also provided piano, guitar, vocals, and synthesizer programming; string instruments were provided by the Hijiri Kuwano Strings group. The sound drama is an alternate telling of the events leading to A Link to the Past, beginning with Link's early childhood; it features Link, Princess Zelda, Ganondorf, and several original characters including Link's father Banzetta, his mother Roretta, his aunt Egorowa, and his uncle Arufon.[note 1] It is considered to be ambiguously-canon media, and generally accepted as non-canon among fans.
The second CD contains 10 in-game songs from the Famicom Disk System version of The Legend of Zelda, followed by 30 from A Link to the Past. The album's liner notes include several pieces of full-color artwork from A Link to the Past, a brief interview with development staff, commentary on the arranged songs from sound producer Y. Ito, and a behind-the-scenes look at the sound drama.
