Main Characters

Link

A storm destroyed Link's boat and left him stranded on Koholint Island. Now he is looking for a way off.

Marin

The girl who found Link washed up on shore. She resembles Princess Zelda and her dream is to become a seagull so she can fly around the world and sing to people.

Owl

A mysterious Owl who helps guide Link through his adventure.




Wind Fish

Koholint Island and its inhabitants are all part of the Wind Fish's dream. If Link is to escape from the island, he must wake the Wind Fish.




Main Antagonist

Nightmare

Nightmare is the shapeshifting evil keeping the Wind Fish asleep and Link trapped on the island. During the battle with Link, he transforms into enemies of Link's past. Upon his defeat the Wind Fish awakens and Koholint Island fades away.

Supporting Characters

Tarin

The father of Marin. He seems to have a thing for mushrooms.

Papahl and family

Main article: Papahl

Papahl is the father of the four quadruplets on the island. He has another baby and a wife. The wife seems to think the baby would like a Yoshi Doll.

Shop Keeper

The shop keeper at Koholint sells items that are necessary for Link to complete his quest. Link can either pay for them, or he can decide to steal them, if he is ready to face the consequences. The next time Link enters the shop, the shop keeper will blast Link with a magic beam that instantly kills him.

Ulrira and Grandma Ulrira

Ulrira is a strange man who knows a lot about the island. However, he does not like to talk to people directly. Link needs to call Ulrira from one of the many phone booths to get information. Grandma Ulrira seems to enjoy sweeping a lot. At one point she breaks her broom from the amount of sweeping she does.

Madam MeowMeow

Madam MeowMeow really likes her dogs and becomes frantic when one is kidnapped.

Bow-Wow

Bow-Wow is one of Madam MeowMeow's dogs. He likes eating Goponga Flowers.

Mr. Write

Mr. Write loves writing letters.

Christine

Christine is a goat in the Animal Village who replies to Mr. Write's letters. She sends him a picture of Princess Peach, poking fun at long distance relationships through mail, e-mail, etc. since she is lying about what she looks like and Mr. Write believes he is writing to a beutiful woman.

Chef Bear

The chef in the Animal Village.

Schule Donavitch

The artist in the Animal Village. His brother is Sale.

Walrus

The lazy Walrus blocks the entrance to Yarna Desert. He will only move for Marin's singing.

Rabbits

Several Rabbits inhabit the Animal Village.

Sale

Main article: Sale's Banana Shop

Sale collects canned food. His brother is Schule Donavitch.

Martha

The mermaid of Martha's Bay. Schule Donavitch made a statue of her, but it is not complete. She also seems to have lost her neclace.

Fishermen

There are two fishermen on Koholint Island. One is looking for a hook, the other will let Link try fishing, for a price.

Richard

Richard used to live in Kanalet Castle, but his servants went beserk and drove him away. He wants his Five Golden Leaves back.

Manbo

The sunfish king and writer of Manbo's Mambo.

Mamu

A frog that teaches Link Frog's Song of Soul, for a price.

Crazy Tracy

A girl who will sell Link her "secret" which will refill Link's hearts when he dies.

Syrup

Syrup is a witch who is trying to make Magic Powder, but she is short on mushrooms.

Kiki

Main article: Kiki

Kiki is a hungry monkey sitting outside Kanalet Castle.

Cucco Keeper

The cucco keeper lives on top of Tal Tal Mountain Range and tells Link the legend of the Flying Rooster

Ghost

A strange ghost that starts to haunt you before Catfish's Maw. He wants you to take him to his house and then his grave.

Mad Batter

Not named in the game, but the name comes from the official player's guide. Mad Batter will get woken up if Link sprinkles magic powder where he is resting. In order to punish Link, he makes Link carry more magic powder, bombs, or arrows. Needless to say, unlike the Mad Batter believes, this is quite helpful.

Photographer

Only seen in the DX Version of the game, the Photographer loves taking pictures and will take several shots of your quest. (Also see: Photo Album (Link's Awakening))

Manga

Felicia

Main article: Felicia

Appearing only in the manga, Felicia is a small fairy who carries around the Siren's Instruments for Link. The relationship between her and Link is somewhat hinted to be one of romance, although it is never confirmed either way.

Nakura

Nakura is the name given to the ghost who wants to be taken to his house in the manga. He is the one who gives Link a more powerful sword, as well as saves Link's life at one point by possessing him.

Karuna

Main article: Karuna

Karuna is the self-proclaimed master of Koholint Island. He bears resemblance to, and likely is, a moblin. After Link has broken his sword in Angler's Tunnel, Karuna soon engages him in battle, proving to be a strong adversary, besting Link and almost being the death of him. However, Nakura's help allowed Link to both survive and gain a new sword. When Link and Karuna met for a second time, Karuna was killed quickly.

Master Drona

Main article: Master Drona

Master Drona is a Hinox, and stronger than the average one. As might be predicted of him, Drona fights simply for fun. Link's Sword Beam attack had no effect on him at all, when the two battled. Drona's skill in battle is almost unrivalled, as he was able to stop Link's attacks at a close range. However, Drona was eventually bested by a secret technique of Link's (Two Step Sword Revolution). As he lay dying, Drona's last words were "That was fun, kid."
