The Chest Mini-Game Shop is a location in The Minish Cap.[1][note 1]
Features and Overview
The Chest Mini-Game Shop is run by Borlov in Hyrule Town. At first, the shop is closed,[3][4] only opening after Link defeats Mazaal and obtains the Ocarina of Wind.[5] Borlov will let Link pay 10 Rupees to play the Mini-Game itself,[6] though he attempts to dissuade Link from playing at all.[7]
The Mini-Game itself is simple; there are two Chests in the back room, and Link must pick one to open. One Chest will double the amount of Link's current bet, while the other will cause him to lose his initial bet and any more Rupees he may have won. Opening the incorrect Chest will end the game, but if Link opens the correct one, Borlov will give him the opportunity to continue betting with his new amount, doubling it with each success. If Link reaches a bet of 640 Rupees and wins (a total of seven successes in a row), Borlov will give him the maximum amount of 999 Rupees and plead with him to leave.[8]
After Link Fuses Kinstone Pieces with Spekter in the Royal Valley, Borlov will be inspired to create a separate difficulty of the Mini-Game.[9] When Link next enters the Chest Mini-Game Shop and speaks to him, he will let Link choose between "Level 1: Easy" and "Level 2: Hard".[10][11] Level 2 has identical mechanics to Level 1, the only difference being the number of Chests (increased from two to three) and the factor placed on a winning bet (a success in Level 2 triples the bet, as opposed to a success in Level 1, which doubles the bet). Borlov will give Link 999 Rupees if he reaches a bet of 810 Rupees and wins (a total of five successes in a row).
The probability of acquiring 999 Rupees from Level 1 is , or approximately 0.7813%.
The probability of acquiring 999 Rupees from Level 2 is , or approximately 0.4115%.
