"A Brother's Roast" is a Shrine Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview
In Goron City, Link can find Bladon in his home, where he is wondering where someone went.[2] When Link approaches him, Bladon complains that his brother has yet to return.[3] If Link asks about his brother, Bladon explains that he is proud of Gonguron, but he went to investigate "the secret of the hero" and never returned.[4] Alternatively, if Link asks if Gonguron ran away, Bladon says that, if he were, he would not have said he was searching for the "secret of the hero".[5] With sadness, Bladon wonders what is happening with Gonguron.[6][7]
Once again, Link can ask Bladon a question. If he asks where Gonguron went, Bladon shares his belief that he went to Gorko Tunnel,[8] which the Gorons gave up on mining due to its extremely hard bedrock.[9] However, if Link inquires about the "secret of the hero", Bladon explains that legends state it is hidden behind that bedrock.[10] Ultimately, Bladon wishes that Gonguron would give up on his dreams and help out with work.[11] After this, the Shrine Quest will begin.
When Link arrives at Gorko Tunnel, he will find Gonguron collapsed in front of the bedrock.[12] He wishes to keep mining the rubble in order to find the secret of the hero, as he believes he will become famous if he does so.[13] However, he is not strong enough to continue, and his stomach has been rumbling.[14] Just then, Bladon arrives at the Tunnel,[15] where he reveals he traced his brother's steps to find him.[16]
As Gonguron's brother, Bladon asks for Link's assistance in helping him.[17] He tells Link to go down the hill to the base of Gortram Cliff and retrieve and Rock Roast for him.[18] While he would like to get it himself, but his "Goron shoulder" condition, which he does not wish to discuss, prevents him from doing so.[19] Therefore, he is relying on Link to bring him a Rock Roast.[20]
The path from Gorko Tunnel to the base of Gortram Cliff is filled with Red Chuchus and Black Moblins. They can be either avoided or defeated when traversing this path. Boulders will also roll in front of Link, which will knock him down if they hit him. To secure a safe path, Link can defeat all of the Enemies that he will have to face and trigger all of the Boulders beforehand, which will allow him to walk straight to Gorko Tunnel with no issues.
Upon Link's return with a Rock Roast, Bladon will beckon him over to drop it in the Cooking Pot.[21] He declares that this Rock Roast he has ever seen and immediately decides to Cook it.[22] The result is a Deliciously Grilled Rock Roast,[23] the scent of which causes Gonguron to sit up.[24] Bladon offers the Deliciously Grilled Rock Roast to Gonguron to help him feel better.[25]
Since it looks so tasty, Gonguron decides to eat the Deliciously Grilled Rock Roast right away.[26] He enjoys the gritty, crunchy texture,[27] especially after it has been seared to perfection.[28] The Deliciously Grilled Rock Roast restores Gonguron's strength,[29] and he compliments his brother's Cooking.[30] Fully energized, Gonguron decides to return to mining the bedrock.[31]
With a shout about his Goron power, Gonguron is able to hit the bedrock hard enough to break it,[32] revealing Kayra Mah Shrine.[33] However, both he and Bladon note that it is similar to something else in Goron City.[34][35] Despite this, Bladon is proud of his brother for unearthing the Ancient Shrine.[36] The two of them celebrate together, and the Shrine Quest is completed.
