Overview

When Princess Zelda returns to the Throne Room of Hyrule Castle after being freed from the Suthorn Ruins, she is greeted by General Wright, Minister Lefte, and her father, the King of Hyrule.[2] However, a Rift soon after appears on the throne. Although the King is able to push Zelda out of the way, he, Wright, and Lefte are all stolen away by the Rift. Impostors of the three then appear from the Rift. The King of Hyrule? calls Soldiers into the Throne Room and orders Zelda's imprisonment.[3] The Soldiers are confused, until the King and the other impostors accuse her of creating the Rift.[4] As a result, Zelda is escorted to the Hyrule Castle Underground.[4]

While Princess Zelda is escaping the Hyrule Castle Underground with Tri, she runs into Impa.[5] She is relieved to see that Zelda is safe, though she is outraged by the King's actions.[6] Zelda explains the impostors and that Tri has been helping her, and Tri adds that Zelda is able to use the Tri Rod to create Echoes.[7] After looking around, Impa asks where Tri is, and Tri realizes that she is unable to see them.[8] Upon explaining this to Impa, she remarks that the world is mysterious, but she states that she will always support Zelda.[9] However, she reveals that the King of Hyrule? plans on executing Zelda, so they must prepare for her escape.[9]

To aid in Princess Zelda's escape, Impa has brought a dress for her to wear, claiming that her Customary Attire stands out too much.[10] She notices the swordsman's cloak that Zelda picked up at the Suthorn Ruins, and she encourages her to change into it as well.[11] Zelda steps behind a nearby Goddess Statue to change into the Disguise.[12] Impa declares that her Clothing is able to conceal her identity without worry.[13]

At that moment, the Soldiers patrolling the Hyrule Castle Underground notice that Princess Zelda has disappeared.[14] A group of three Soldiers appear nearby, and Impa steps forward to deal with them.[15] The Soldiers ask if Impa was speaking to Zelda and demand that she stand aside.[16] However, Impa refuses, and she is able to single-handedly disarm all three Soldiers.[17] Zelda and Tri are both shocked. Impa then gives Princess Zelda the Log, explaining that she should head to the location she marked to seek help.[18][19] As more Soldiers approach, Impa urges Zelda to leave her behind and escape using the Royal-Family Shortcut.[20] Once Zelda leaves her, "The Mysterious Rifts" officially begins.

While Zelda and Tri are passing through the Royal-Family Shortcut, another Rift appears over the exit, though it stops growing quickly.[21] Tri explains that it is their and their friends' responsibility to mend Rifts, but since they are unable to manage one of this size on their own, they suggest leaving it alone for now.[22] However, as Zelda walks further into the Shortcut, the Rift begins to expand once more, threatening to steal her away. She is forced to Swim in the Shortcut's waterways, but she ends up washed away by the rapid current.

Princess Zelda wakes up in a Cave on Suthorn Beach. Tri is happy to see her awake, and they urge her to continue forward.[23] When they exit the Cave, Tri looks around and suggests that Zelda check her Map to figure out where they are.[24] In order to reach the House marked on her Map, Zelda must pass through the Beach Cave, Suthorn Village, and Suthorn Forest. In Suthorn Village, Zelda can hear about the concerns that the nearby residents have for the large Rift in the area. The Rift's expansion has blocked their path to Hyrule Castle, and one of the villagers has fallen in.[25] If Zelda investigates, she finds that the direct path to the House she heading toward has been blocked, forcing her to take a route through Suthorn Forest.

When Zelda and Tri arrive at the House Impa marked, they find that it has been partially consumed by the Rift.[26] Tri is concerned by the Rift's presence, since usually their friends would have fixed it by now.[27] Turning to Zelda, Tri asks her to help find their friends so they can mend the Rift.[28] Looking around, they suggest heading east to find a place where they can enter the Rift.[29] As they approach the Rift, Tri confirms that their friends are trapped somewhere inside.[30] They state that they will be able to mend the Rift if their friends are freed, and they ask for Zelda's help in doing so.[31] Tri then creates an entrance to the Rift, allowing them both to enter.[32]

Inside the Rift, Zelda is able to access the Stilled Suthorn Forest in the Still World. Tri explains that the Still World contains everything that has fallen into Rifts.[33] Eventually, these Objects will break apart and vanish, but Tri and their friends are able to restore them.[34] Tri is able to sense their friends deeper in the Still World, and they encourage Zelda to keep going.[35] As Zelda traverses the Stilled Suthorn Forest, she comes across the villager who was stolen away from Suthorn Village. Tri reveals that people who fall into Rifts become petrified and fade away, but they assure Zelda that this will not happen to her.[36] Later on, they encounter Minister Lefte, who has also been petrified. Tri recognizes her and reminds Zelda that she will be restored after they mend the Rift.[37]

After entering the Suthorn Ruins through the Stilled Suthorn Forest, Tri remarks that this was where Princess Zelda was held when she was kidnapped by the blue monster.[38] Tri is able to sense that they are closer to their friends now, who are located somewhere inside the Dungeon.[39] On the second floor of the Ruins, Zelda and Tri encounter a figure they initially believe to be the hero who saved Zelda.[40] However, as Zelda approaches him, he suddenly attacks her. After Link is defeated, he disappears, leaving the Mysterious Sword behind. Tri notes that, although he looked like the hero, he appeared similar to the impostors at Hyrule Castle.[41] Tri notices the Mysterious Sword, which Zelda picks up.[42][43] Tri senses a great power coming from the Sword.[44] When Zelda raises the Sword, she is able to enter her Swordfighter Form.[45]

The Tris in the Suthorn Ruins

In the final chamber of the Suthorn Ruins, Tri is confused to find it empty, claiming they could sense their friends here before.[46] Suddenly, the room begins to shake, and Seismic Talus emerges from the ground. Tri realizes that their friends are trapped inside of it, and they rally Zelda to fight the Boss.[47] After Seismic Talus has been defeated, the Tris it had previously captured will be freed, and Tri plans to work with them to mend the Rift using Echoes.[48] Tri gathers their friends together, and together, they are able to mend the Rift, restoring the Suthorn Ruins, Suthorn Forest, and the House. When Tri returns, they reveal that their friends have shared some Power with them, giving them an extra triangle with which to create Echoes.[49][50] In addition, Tri relays that the other Tris were captured by Seismic Talus while they originally tried to mend the Rift.[51] Lastly, they give Zelda five Unusual Crystals that were left behind when the Rift was mended.[52][53] Now that they are finished in the Still World, Tri says that they can leave, believing they can use the portal at the back of the room to do so.[54]

Outside of the newly restored Suthorn Ruins, Tri states that they should be able to access the House now, and they assure Princess Zelda that they will be able to mend all of the Rifts and save the King of Hyrule.[55] Minister Lefte then runs out from the Suthorn Ruins, asking Zelda to speak to her.[56] Lefte introduces herself as the minister and asks where they are.[57] Zelda then pulls down the hood of her Diguise, revealing her identity. Lefte is shocked and embarrassed not to have recognized her, though she questions why she needs to wear a Disguise.[58] Upon hearing Zelda's explanation, Lefte is saddened to hear that Zelda is facing dangers.[59] She is also surprised to hear about her ability to create Echoes, and she thanks Tri for staying by Zelda's side.[60] Tri is shocked that Lefte can see them, and Lefte wonders how anyone could miss them.[61] However, she finds it strange that Impa was unable to see Tri.[62]

Zelda speaking to Lueburry

Minister Lefte decides that they should head to the House that Impa sent them to.[63] Upon examining Zelda's Map, Lefte notes that the House belongs to Impa's brother, and she offers to lead Zelda and Tri there.[64] After walking through Suthorn Forest, the three arrive at Lueburry's House and enter together.[65] Inside, Lefte attempts to speak to Lueburry, but he is too distracted preparing to leave and save Link.[66] However, after turning around, Lueburry notices that Zelda is wearing Link's cloak and asks if she has seen him.[67] After hearing Zelda explain how she obtained it, Lueburry demands that she tell him everything about her encounters with Rifts and the swordsman that saved her.[68] Lueburry thanks Zelda for her sharing her story with him, while Lefte is relieved to have gotten through to him.[69]

Turning to Tri, Lueburry asks what they are, claiming that he has been bothered by them since the group entered.[70] Tri is shocked that another person can see them, which interests both Minister Lefte and Lueburry.[71] Lueburry theorizes that this could be due to both himself and Lefte being changed by their time in the Still World.[72]

Lueburry properly introduces himself as Impa's older brother, and he explains that the swordsman who saved Zelda is Link.[73] Minister Lefte asks why he made the Sword of Might, and Lueburry reveals that it was designed to be effective against Monsters that appear from Rifts, including the one that kidnapped Princess Zelda.[74] Previously, Lueburry believed that this Monster was responsible for creating Rifts, but he wants to seek more information now that Rifts have continued to form after its defeat.[75] Minister Lefte steps forward, claiming that she felt as though she were being moved a great distance while she was in the Still World, and she ended up being found in a different Rift than the one she fell into.[76] Tri states that the Still World is connected differently than the regular world, and they theorize that other missing people could be found in oversized Rifts the Tris told them about.[77]

Tri decides to float through the ceiling and into the sky to check on the Rifts they heard about.[78] Upon their return, Tri confirms that they were able to find two large Rifts in the Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters, which they mark on Zelda's Map.[79] They believe that they may be able to find the King of Hyrule and other missing people if they keep exploring Rifts.[80] Minister Lefte attempts to dissuade Zelda from entering the Still World again, but Lueburry convinces her by saying she must play her part as the only one who can mend Rifts.[81] Lueburry asks Zelda to accompany Tri and mend more Rifts, and he suggests that he and Lefte spend their time researching to support her efforts.[82] Lefte decides to leave the search to Zelda and Tri, though she offers them information on the Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters.[83] Following this conversation, "The Mysterious Rifts" will be completed, and "Searching for Everyone" will begin.

After completing "The Mysterious Rifts", the Side Quests "Finding the Flying Plant" and "Up a Wall" become available.

  64. Oh! I'm getting ahead of myself. Would you mind showing me your map? If I recall correctly... Yes, that's the place. That's where Lady Impa's brother lives. Makes sense she'd send you there. I'll lead the way. Follow me! — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  65. Right in here, Princess. — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  66. Hello, sir! Pardon us, but my name is Lefte. Lady Impa is my colleague, and— — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
Whozzat? I'm a very busy man. No time for chatter. Now, get — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
I apologize for the unannounced visit. But, please, we'll only be a moment. — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
No, no, no. I'm about to leave. Come back later! — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
If you could just hear us out... — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
    I. Said. Nooo! I've got to go save Link! — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  67. Hm? Hang on here... That's Link's cloak! So why do YOU have it? Did you see him? Well?! — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  68. WhaAaAAat?! OK. Tell me everything. Tell me about the rifts and anything you know about the swordsman. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  69. Mmm! I understand the situation now. Thanks for the explanation, Princess. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
Phew, we finally got through to him... — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  70. All right, this has been bugging me ever since you barged in here. What IS that floaty thing? — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  71. You can see me too? That's strange. Zelda's always been able to. But now both of you can as well. — Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)
You're telling me we're the only ones who can see you? That's odd... — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
Indeed! Such a fascinating, and might I add—adorable, creature. — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  72. Yeah, yeah, sure. But back to the matter at hand: What is it that you and I have in common? We've both ended up in rifts and lived to tell the tale. It seems the rifts change people somehow... — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  73. Oh, yeah! Guess I should introduce myself. The name's Lueburry. I'm Impa's older brother. And the swordsman who saved you is Link. I made his weapon: the Sword of Might. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  74. Mr. Lueburry, why did you make him a sword? — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
Princess, remember that big, nasty blue fella who captured you? The sword was for taking him out. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
See, I spend my time researching Hyrule's history and its rifts. For ages now, rifts have appeared, and sometimes folks have ended up in them. Those unfortunate enough to be pulled into a rift vanished without a trace... After which townsfolk would say they'd been stolen away. Anyhow, Link made it his mission to fight the monsters that come crawling out of the rifts. He also tried to prevent folks from going missing. And I've been helping as I'm able to. Which I why I made him a sword—one that's effective against the rift monsters. The Sword of Might Princess Zelda's wielding is the very one I hoped would be of use to Link. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
So Link was helping out with the rifts as well... — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  75. Plenty of monsters come out of rifts, but that blue one was particularly powerful. I've got a hunch that if we take him out, it'll fix the whole "people disappearing" business. Princess, you shared that Link managed to take the blue guy out. And yet the rifts keep coming. Clearly we're missing something. The rift in the forest is gone, but Link's not back. What we need is more information. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  76. I may have something useful. When I was taken by the rift in Hyrule Castle, it felt like I was flown somewhere far away. The rift I was pulled into was at Hyrule Castle, but Princess Zelda found me in a rift in the forest. So how did I end up over there? — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  77. Rifts don't follow the same rules as your world. Things connect differently inside them. My friends had mentioned something about oversized rifts in other areas. We might end up finding the king and other missing people in far-off rifts. — Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)
So maybe Link is somewhere else, then?! — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
  78. Hey, Zelda. I'm going to fly up high to look for some of the other big rifts. — Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)
  79. I think I found some. There's no saying where Zelda's father and the others might be. But I did spot some big rifts we can go explore. I've marked them on your map, Zelda. — Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)
  80. If we fix the rifts, we may be able to save your father and the others. So let's get to work, Zelda. — Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)
  81. Princess Zelda, I must insist that you refrain from going to any more rifts! It's far too dangerous! — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
That's up to her to decide, Minister. I mean, she's the only one capable of mending the rifts. During this time of crisis in Hyrule, we all have to play our parts. Princess Zelda included. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
You make a salient point, Mr. Lueburry... — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  82. Princess, I urge you to go with Tri to the other rifts. You're the only one who can fix them and save all the people who've gone missing! Minister, you stay here and help me investigate the rifts. We'll play support for the princess. — Lueburry (Echoes of Wisdom)
Oh! Of course. Investigations are my specialty. — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
  83. Princess, the rifts marked by Tri are located in the Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters. Please let me know if you require further information. All right, Princess. I leave it to you to find the king, General Wright, and Link. — Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)
