Forest Dweller's Swords were made by the Koroks for the Hylians to use.[1] It's likely they were intended to clear paths through forests.[1] They're mostly commonly found in and around Hyrule Field and the Great Hyrule Forest. They're one of the weapons provided in the Shrine Quest "The Test of Wood", along with the Forest Dweller's Shield and Forest Dweller's Bow.
As a wooden weapon, Forest Dweller's Swords are flammable and float on water. They also can't attract Lightning during thunderstorms.
