Ashei was raised in the mountains by her father, a skilled knight, and learned multiple combat skills from him.[1] She is seen carrying a sword and later in the game a bow and a quiver of arrows. Due to her rather masculine upbringing, she took on a somewhat blunt personality and a rough way of speaking.[2] This idiosyncratic way of ending sentences with "yeah?", and the similarities between the two aesthetically, may be a reference to The Wind Waker's Gonzo. It could be said that she is stronger than most men in Hyrule; at the very least, she seems to have a rather derogatory view of the soldiers of Hyrule, stating at one point that she thought that Hyrule was "empty of men of valor"[3] and explaining that the reason she was rude to Link was that she thought he was like "one of those sorry excuses for Hyrule soldiers".[4]

She seems to be interested in finding out why evil seems to control the mountain of Snowpeak,[5] and later tries to figure out the reason for the beast sightings around the Zora's Domain.[6] When Link goes to meet her there, she gives him a sketch, which depicts a Yeti holding a red fish.[7] When Link shows it to Zoras, he finds that the fish is a Reekfish and that Prince Ralis knows about them, being a skilled angler.[8] Link goes to Ralis, gets the Coral Earring,[9] and is able to fish for a Reekfish, which enables him to follow the fish's strong scent through the blizzard encompassing Snowpeak.

Other appearances

Ashei also appears as a Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Her trophy description reads: A brave, young female warrior and part of the resistance movement to save Hyrule, which is thrown into unrest by Zant. She holds strategy for resistance members at Telma's Bar in Hyrule Castle Town. Ashei is in charge of covering the Snowpeak region. She is sometimes seen out and about wearing a yeti hide.

Trivia

Ashei is seen wearing what may be a Yeti costume when investigating Snowpeak in Twilight Princess.
