Bubbulfrog

From Zelda Wiki, the Zelda encyclopedia

Bubbulfrogs are Creatures in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Characteristics

Bubbulfrogs are large, frog-like creatures found in caves. They are pale blue and have yellow horns, similar to Blupees and Satori. Bubbulfrogs will spit harmless bubbles at Link which can be popped. If Link attacks a Bubbulfrog enough, its body will ascend and fade, leaving behind a Bubbul Gem and a Blupee.

There are a total of 147 Bubbulfrogs in Hyrule. As noted by the Tips and Tricks screen, one can be found in every cave.[2] Caves which have already had their Bubbul Gems acquired will appear with a check mark on their icon on the Purah Pad's map. Often a Blupee can be found nearby a cave entrance to indicate one is nearby. Additionally, if Link leaves a fruit item in the bowl of a Cherry-Blossom Tree, Satori will appear and indicate the locations of caves with remaining Bubbulfrogs with glowing pillars of light. Koltin can also discern a location of an undiscovered Bubbulfrog, though he only requires 46 of the Bubbul Gems to obtain all his items.[citation needed]

Nomenclature

"Bubbulfrog" is derived from the words "bubble" and "frog". However, in Japanese, Bubbulfrogs' name more clearly links them with Satori: they are called マヨイ (Mayoi), as in the word 迷い (Mayoi) ("delusion"), referring to the Buddhist concept of "inability to reach enlightenment". This contrasts the name of Satori (サトリ (Satori), literally "knowing"), which is similarly the Japanese Buddhist term for "awakening" or "enlightenment".
