Entrance to Gnarled Root

Gnarled Root Dungeon, located in North Horon, is the first dungeon in Oracle of Seasons. The Maku Tree gives Link the Gnarled Key, the item needed to unlock this labyrinth's entrance, in the process of asking him to retrieve the essence Fertile Soil from it.

The dungeon's twin mini-bosses, the Goriya Bros., yield a Seed Satchel filled with Ember Seeds after their defeat. Once Link defeats the boss, Aquamentus, he obtains a Heart Container and the essence he was searching for. Overall, this is a very simple dungeon that can be conquered without much trouble: the only true puzzles are "guess which block to push" predicaments. Although there are many monsters, most of them are fairly weak. Link can find one Gasha Seed partway through this dungeon.

Coincidentally, not only is its entrance - a gnarled, dead tree - similar to the Eagle Labyrinth, but the two dungeons also share the same boss. In Norse mythology there is a dragon named Níðhöggr that gnarls on a root of Yggdrasill - compare with the fact that the boss of this dungeon is a dragon.
