"Flown the Coop" is a Side Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview

After Link has spoken to Impa for the first time, Cado will begin his regular schedule. During the day, he can be found standing in front of his fenced in yard, wondering how something could have happened.[2] When Link speaks to him, Cado reveals that several of his Cuccos have managed to escape their pen.[3] His Cuccos are his only emotional support after his wife Rola left him.[4] He cries about what he should do.[5]

Link can offer to retrieve the Cuccos for Cado.[6] Cado notes that there are ten Cuccos altogether and hopes that Link can find them.[7] Any time Link returns to Cado without all of the Cuccos in their pen, Cado will remind him of how many he needs and tells him how many have returned.[8] He stresses over the thought of any of his Cuccos being gone and begs Link to do his best in finding them.[9] Once he is done talking, the Side Quest will begin.

All of the Cuccos can be found in Kakariko Village, with three of them remaining in the pen where they belong. One has flown up onto the hill and is loitering near Ta'loh Naeg Shrine, just above Cado's home. Another is standing beside the Common Cooking Area. One Cucco has roosted on the roof of Enchanted, across the road from Cado's house. Yet another is perched on the roof of a wooden structure in front of Nanna and Lasli's house. The eighth is trotting about the Campfire in front of the village's Goddess Statue. Number nine is situated in another of these structures next to Steen's Swift Carrot patch. Finally, the last Cucco is pecking around in Mellie's Plum Garden. This last Cucco is tricky to obtain, as Mellie will immediately scold anyone for trespassing in her garden.[10] It can only be grabbed when she goes home for the night.

Once all of the Cuccos are accounted for, Cado will be surprised and overjoyed with Link's success. He thanks Link repeatedly for his work and rewards him with a Purple Rupee, valued at 50 Rupees.[11] This ends the Side Quest. Cado declares that he is ready to face the world again, although he wishes his wife would return as well.[12]
