Biography

Breath of the Wild

Garini is a resident of Lurelin Village who can be found examining the ruined monument in the Palmorae Ruins. When Link first speaks to him, he will initially be startled, but he will then apologize and ask if he needs something.[5] If Link asks him what he is doing, Garini explains that he was investigating the stone monument at the center of the Ruins, having noticed that it bears writing upon it.[6]

If Link offers to help with deciphering the text, Garini will inform him that the stone monument was once a complete discoid object that broke apart due to a recent earthquake.[7] He then asks Link to locate the Monument Shards and return with Pictures of the text on each one's face.[8]

To help with Link's search, Garini mentions that the text will glow at night and that one Shard should be near their location.[9] This begins the Shrine Quest "A Fragmented Monument". When Link returns to Garini, he will ask if he has found the Monument Shards yet.[10] If Link replies that he is still looking, Garini reiterates his previous advice.[11] If Link says that he has found the Shards but does not have any Pictures, Garini asks him to draw one.[12]

When Link returns with a Picture of the first Monument Shard, Garini hints that the next one may have been washed away and pulled underwater.[13] Once Link returns with a second Picture, Garini will wonder if the waves from the Necluda Sea could be powerful enough to carry a Monument Shard further away, such as to Cape Cresia. or Soka Point.[14]

Once Link returns with Pictures of all three Monument Shards, Garini will begin work to decipher their text.[15] He finds that the completed monument held directions for two people to "kneel in reverence," but does not know what this means.[16] If Link crouches atop one of the two pedestals at the Palmorae Ruins, Garini will follow suit,[17] causing the Kah Yah Shrine to rise from the ground.

In his excitement, Garini compliments Link's capacity for solving riddles before allowing him to explore the Ancient Shrine.[18][19] Afterwards, Garini will continue to explore the Palmorae Ruins and, when spoken to, comment on how extraordinary Link is.[20][21]

Tears of the Kingdom

Garini is a Hylian who initially resides at Lookout Landing. When pirates attacked Lurelin Village, Garini and his wife Mubs fled to Lookout Landing.[22]

Garini can first be encountered in the Emergency Shelter of Lookout Landing. He admits to being starstruck as a result of meeting Link, claiming that not many celebrities come to visit Lurelin Village.[23] If asked about Lurelin Village, Garini recalls that it was a fishing village known to be a popular resort destination.[24] However, the Pirate attack forced all of its residents to flee.[25] Despite being saddened by this, Garini decides to look on the bright side and enjoy Lookout Landing.[22] He points out how, in Lurelin Village, Beds could only be found at the local Inn, the Fishing Resort.[26] He also advertises Mubs's Shop to Link.[2]
