Story Mode is a Mode in Cadence of Hyrule.[1] It contains the main story of the game, with a total of five characters that can be unlocked.

Overview

The story starts with Cadence finding herself in Hyrule, after Octavo has cursed both Link and Zelda to sleep with his Golden Lute. Trill finds her, and together they venture into a cave only to find one-way portals leading to Link and Zelda.[2] Cadence chooses one, waking up the selected hero and leaving to find her own way out of this world. Link or Zelda is filled in on the situation by Trill and sets off to restore peace to Hyrule by defeating Octavo and his champions.

Along the way, they can wake up the other hero in Kakariko Village with a Hibiscus Potion, give 20 Deku Seeds to Tingle and team up with Yves the Deku Scrub,[3] and encounter Cadence in caves close to dungeon entrances to find upgrades and eventually have her join the party.[4] They may even travel to the Future World to meet a Skull Kid, who joins the group after they retrieve the Skull Mask from the Deku Hollow.[5]

One by one, Octavo's champions are defeated, and with all four instruments in hand, the heroes enter Hyrule Castle to face the musician himself. Upon his defeat, the Golden Lute vanishes in a portal to the Future World, leading Octavo and the heroes to go chasing after it. Once through the future Hyrule Castle, Octavo is seen lying on the ground, having failed in his mission to defeat Ganon. Link, Zelda, and Cadence challenge Ganon as a trio, eventually defeating him and using the power of the Triforce to send Cadence to another world, hopefully sending her back home.

Trivia

  • The final boss of Symphony of the Mask, Skull Ganon, can be challenged in Story Mode if the final boss chamber is entered as Skull Kid.
  • The map of Hyrule Castle differs slightly depending on if Link or Zelda is selected by Cadence. Zelda's version of the castle includes a bridge to the east that allows her to escape, as well as a Sheikah Stone. It is also one pixel wider than the usual version of the area.
