Talk:Deep Python
Name
"Tatl calls them Deep Pythons".
Knowing that, isn't THAT the name this page should be under? Otherwise, I might as well change Skulltula to redirect to Big Skull Spider. --Felicia's Champion 12:22, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- I remember thinking this once, and I don't remember why I didn't do anything about it. Go on ahead and move it. —Ando (talk) 15:40, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that moving this was a good idea. This creature is mentioned nine times in the game. Tatl called them "Deep Pythons". But all eight others called them "sea snakes". Tatl's names aren't absolute. Remember that what she calls a Garo is actually a Garo Robe.Emma (Talk) 16:17, August 9, 2008 (UTC)
That... might be why I didn't do it before. But why does Tatl call them Deep Pythons? "Garo" is at least similar to "Garo Robe"... This is quite a puzzle. —Ando (talk) 20:24, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, I just woke up, so this might not be written too well, but...
- Tatl, we could describe as "the source of knowledge in the game. She's the one who knows everything (the page is Garo Ninja, not even Garo Robe).
- It's reasonable to assume that Aveil, her pirates and the fisherman wouldn't know their real names, and stick a label like "Sea Snake" on them (can't remember if the Zoras or the scientist mention them).
--Felicia's Champion 00:24, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- There are several signs in the area. They all call them "Sea Snakes" You're taking real-world logic too far. This is a game. Nintendo obviously likes the name "Sea Snake" better. And it is not stated anywhere that "Tatl" is the ultimate source of knowledge. She makes it clear several times that she doesn't know everything.Emma (Talk) 00:34, August 10, 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I know, but Tatl is basically the "enemy guide". That's what I mean.
- Besides...don't the signs just say the water is murky? It's been a long time since I played... --Felicia's Champion 00:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Here are the signs:
- "Pinnacle Rock ahead.
- Beware murky water and
- sea snakes."
- "Sea snakes' lair ahead.
- Due to the murky water, caution
- is advised for all who enter."
- "Danger! Murky water ahead!"
The Seahorse knows the area better than anyone else. This is clearly stated in the game. Here are its words:
- "Here in the depths of Pinnacle Rock live many dangerous sea snakes. My friend is trapped here. Link, can you please find a way to rid the area of all the sea snakes and help my friend? Please do this for me. Please defeat all the vicious sea snakes and save my friend."
It is clearly "Sea Snakes". As far as Tatl not knowing everything about the enemies, she had know idea about Majora's Mask having controlling the Skull Kid. She speaks from experience, knowledge. We should move the page back, but put a note of what Tatl calls them. A lot of other enemies have alternate names too. We go with the one that is most widely used in the games.Emma (Talk) 02:15, August 10, 2008 (UTC)
- ...Very well, but I expect that the same should happen for the Garo page.
- I will, however, go on record saying that I like "Deep Python" better. --Felicia's Champion 04:03, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Renaming Proposal (Again)
I'm going to revive a really old convo here and say that in all that was said above, no one mentioned that, although "sea snakes" is said eight times and "Deep Python" is only said once, the latter is capitalized while the former is not. This implies that "Deep Python" is their actual name while "sea snake" is just a descriptive term. That said, I agree with Felicia's Champion that this page should be under the name "Deep Python." In any case, calling them "Sea Snakes" is inaccurate because the term is never capitalized in-game. — Hylian King [*] 01:39, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed for the reasons HK stated. --Dany36 01:46, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- It's pretty obvious that Deep Python is the actual name and sea snake is just a generic term for them, so I can't believe this is an issue in the first place. In fact, if this page isn't moved when I wake up tomorrow I'll do it myself. ※Fizzle (talk) 05:14, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, I'd love to move it but I can't, it's one of THOSE pages. It needs an admin to do it. ※Fizzle (talk) 14:29, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hahaha I'll take care of it ASAP. — Hylian King [*] 14:35, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Eggss?
What's up with that?KrytenKoro (talk) 03:04, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- It's a typo. If you ever see a typo in an article, simply fix it. It doesn't need a talk page subject. - Midoro (T C) 03:30, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Given that it was on an article about snakes, I wasn't sure if it was intentional.KrytenKoro (talk) 04:12, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
