"The Crowned Beast" is a Shrine Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]
Overview
On Rabia Plain, Link can find Kass singing about a "crown of bone" near a Pedestal.[2] He is shocked upon being interrupted,[3] but his demeanor becomes friendly once he recognizes Link.[4] He reveals that he knows an "Ancient Song" about the area,[5] and he asks Link if he would like to listen.[6]
When Link agrees to hear the song, Kass will sing it for him.[7] The lyrics of Kass's song describe placing a beast with a bone crown upon a throne, which will reveal an Ancient Shrine.[8] Though Kass believes that the area is correct, he does not know what kind of creature wears a "crown of bone".[9] He knows there is a secret, but he is not sure he can solve it.[10] He wishes Link well on his journey,[11] and the Shrine Quest begins.
To unearth the Ancient Shrine, Link needs to successfully mount and tame a Mountain Buck.[12] These Deer can be found throughout Rabia Plain, but Link must have a high Stealth level in order to approach one without it running away. After successfully taming a Mountain Buck, Link can ride it onto the Pedestal, which will activate it, and Mezza Lo Shrine to emerge from the ground.[13] After this, the Shrine Quest will be completed.

Stage | Description |

1 | "A beast that wears a crown of bone, Prancing through the lush green. Mount the beast upon its throne, For only then the shrine is seen." This is a song that Kass sang. Solve the song's riddle to find the shrine. |
Complete | "A beast that wears a crown of bone, Prancing through the lush green. Mount the beast upon its throne, For only then the shrine is seen." The beast wearing a crown of bone was a mountain buck. As the song instructed, being atop a mountain buck while it stood on the pedestal caused the shrine to appear. |
Trivia
- Kass's Journal, which is located in a hut on Washa's Bluff, hints at this Shrine Quest.[14] Kass recounts that Rabia Plain is supposedly the setting for an ancient song about a beast,[15] and he plans on stopping by Kakariko Village before investigating.[16]
