As Link enters Vah Ruta, Mipha’s spirit calls out to him and directs him to the Guidance Stone,[1] indicating that it can distill a Map of the Divine Beast onto his Sheikah Slate.[2] This Map displays a translucent 3-dimensional model of Vah Ruta, upon which Link can see his current position in relation to the five Terminals,[3] which he must activate with the Sheikah Slate in order to access the main control unit.[4][5] While viewing the Map, Link can manipulate the height of Vah Ruta’s trunk to pour water inside and turn the internal water wheel. The rotational direction of the water wheel is determined by how far back Vah Ruta's trunk is set. To direct the water wheel to turn forward-to-back, the trunk must be pulled back to either the farthest or second farthest position.

A Floor Switch in the highest portion of the Divine Beast unleashes a waterfall, allowing Link to quickly swim back up, provided he is wearing the Zora Armor. A Terminal is hidden on the underside of the tip of Vah Ruta's trunk, accessible when the trunk is set to the fourth-from-last position.

Mechanisms which require Link to use Magnesis to turn

Upon trying to activate the Main Control Unit, Malice spews forth from the console and the Divine Beast boss, Waterblight Ganon, appears to stop Link. During the fight, Mipha offers her counsel and commentary.

After Waterblight Ganon is defeated, Link can activate the Main Control Unit, though doing so will prevent him from reentering the Divine Beast.[9] When Link activates the Unit and liberates Vah Ruta, Mipha's spirit appears before him to thank him.[10] She explains to Link that because she is no longer alive, she no longer has any need of her healing ability, Mipha's Grace. She bestows this power unto Link.[11]

A Treasure Chest can be found sandwiched between two stone blocks on the inside of the water wheel, requiring Link to use Stasis on the top block, allowing the other block and Treasure Chest to fall. Upon doing so, Link can receive an Ancient Core from the Treasure Chest. Another Treasure Chest containing a Silver Rupee can be found near the rear end of this chamber. A third Treasure Chest containing an Ancient Shaft can be found on Vah Ruta's trunk, accessible when set in a low position. A fourth Treasure Chest is situated on Vah Ruta's back, covered in Malice. A fifth Treasure Chest is located on a small ledge just underneath the cranial chamber housing a Terminal.
