Throughout the game, there has been suggestions that lead some to think that Ilia and Link had something more than friendship. For example, some fans have questioned the scene in Renado's sanctuary, when Ilia re-obtains her memory. When Talo was still at the window when Link and Ilia were being left alone for privacy, Talo's eyes seemed to widen a few seconds before he was pulled by Beth, perhaps they kissed when Talo did so. However, that has not been proven, and though some fans believe so, other believe it is no where near realistic. Some other hints in the game, where when Link and Ilia where at the spring in the beginning of the game. They seemed to be having somewhat of a moment before they get ambushed by enemies. A similar moment happens when Ilia has a flashback of seconds before the attack. Her and Link were deeply gazing into each others eyes, while a romantic and joyful melody was being played in the backround.

Ilia (イリア Iria) is a young woman who lives in Ordon Village. She is Mayor Bo's daughter.[1] She keeps a close eye on Colin and appears to view it as her duty to keep him out of trouble. She is also extremely close with nature and heals Epona when she is hurt at the beginning of the game.[2] Though she is the daughter of the mayor, she would rather spend time in the wild. Ilia appears to be one of Link's closest friends.

Biography

Towards the beginning of the game, Ilia is hit with an arrow and kidnapped along with Colin by a group of Bulblins, which leads into Link trying to rescue her. Link eventually locates her in Hyrule Castle Town, but when she sees him, it is apparent that she does not recognize him. Telma reveals that Ilia has lost her memory and cannot even remember her own name.[3] She has been taking care of Prince Ralis who she had found.[4] Telma had taken them in and was helping Ilia care for the Prince. Telma says that Ilia has a lot of courage and that Link should share his courage with her.[5]

Before she arrives in Hyrule Castle Town, she is held captive with Impaz by some Bulblins in the Hidden Village. Impaz helps her to escape and in return Ilia gives her the Horse Whistle, a whistle in the shape of Horse Grass that can be used to summon Epona. Ilia was apparently locked in her room at the beginning of the game making this item for Link but never got the chance to give it to him.[6]

Renado looks after her in Kakariko Village, before Link restores her memory and she stays there for a while afterwards. After her memory is restored, she gives Link the Horse Call (which is the item that jogs her memory), saying that she made it for him and was going to give it to him before he left.[7]

During Lanayru's narrative of the Fused Shadows, Ilia, along with Link, depict Hyruleans as they watch the creation of Hyrule and the Triforce. Afterwards, she appears blank-eyed (representing the people blinded by the Triforce's power) and attempts to kill Link with a knife. She is presumably killed by Link in the narrative.

During the game's ending, Ilia and the rest of the Ordon children are seen returning to their home inside a carriage. She is last seen witnessing Link's departure from the village.

In concept art, Ilia was drawn with the pointed ears of Hylians. It's possible she was originally intended to be a Hylian, but any Hylian heritage in Ilia is unknown.

Relationship with Link

Trivia

Ilia's Theme
  • Ilia is a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The description reads: Link's childhood friend and daughter of Bo, Ordon Village's mayor. She's always considerate of Link and looks after his horse, Epona. One day, however, she is kidnapped by enemies and loses her memory. Her kidnapping is what prompts Link to set off on his adventure.
  • Ilia seems to be based on the character Saria from Ocarina of Time because both are very close to nature, and are childhood friends with Link. In Japanese, the letters "r" and "l" are the same so that would make Ilia "Iria" and Saria, or "Salia" and Ilia.
  • She could also be based on Malon, who is the caretaker of Link's horse Epona in Ocarina of Time. They also both lives near or on a farm with their father, as well as they both teach Link how to play Epona's Song; although Ilia can't play the song and merely instructed Link what to do to play the song, which was blowing into Horseshoe Grass, but she is the one who made the Horse Call which play Epona's Song as a gift to Link.
