The Age of Darkness is the age in Hyrule in which Zelda's Adventure takes place.[1] It is followed by the Age of Lightness.[2]
Overview
The Age of Darkness began when Ganon (referred to in-game and the manual as "Gannon") returned and took over the land of Tolemac. While most of his followers were always villanous, others he turned to evil.[3] Backed by his monstrous followers, Ganon tole the seven magical Celestial Signs and hid them away in Shrines across Tolemac. Link attempted to stop him but was captured.[4] Ganon then tasked his followers to guard the Celestial Signs so that they could not be reclaimed.[5] To restore peace, the astronomer Gaspra recruits Princess Zelda to retrieve the Celestial Signs, rescue Link, and defeat Ganon.[6]
