Fruitcakes are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Fruitcakes are a dish made by Cooking either an Apple or a Wildberry, any fruit, Tabantha Wheat, and Cane Sugar together in a Cooking Pot. Regular versions of Fruitcake can be made by only using ingredients that don't grant any effects. They can be eaten to restore some Hearts to Link's Life Gauge. Fruitcakes make use of fruits found all over Hyrule and are commonly used in celebrations.[1]

The first Castle Library Book outlines the recipe for Fruitcake, noting it to be a secret of the Royal Family of Hyrule and Princess Zelda's favorite food.[3] The book suggests boiling two or more pieces of fruit with Tabantha Wheat and Cane Sugar for a while.[4] This dish is known to help clear one's head and help with focus, which Princess Zelda apparently took advantage of while she researched Ancient Technology.[5]

As part of the Side Quest "A Royal Recipe", Link can give Gotter at Riverside Stable a Fruitcake.[6] After eating it, he at first describes it as having a refreshing aroma, reminiscent of galloping across the planes on horseback.[7] However, he states that undersells the complexity of the dish, saying it fills him with the intensity of being seen by a Guardian.[8] Gotter calls Fruitcake an elegant dish and explains he never thought he'd taste something so thrilling.[9] As a reward, he'll give Link a Silver Rupee.[10]

Several different variations of Fruitcake can be made, based on both the kind of fruit used and whether any additional ingredients are added:

  • Hearty Fruitcake:[11] Made using Hearty Durians or other hearty ingredients. Eating these cakes will completely heal all of Link's Hearts and grant him temporary Hearts.[11]
  • Energizing Fruitcake:[12] Made using energizing ingredients. When eaten, they'll replenish a portion of Link's Stamina Wheel.[12]
  • Enduring Fruitcake:[13] Made using enduring ingredients. If they're eaten, they'll completely refill and overfill Link's Stamina Wheel.[13]
  • Hasty Fruitcake:[14] Made using hasty ingredients. Eating them will increase Link's movement speed for a short period of time.[14]
  • Mighty Fruitcake:[17] Made using Mighty Bananas or other mighty ingredients. If eaten, they increase the power of Link's attacks for a short time.[17]
  • Tough Fruitcake:[18] Made using tough ingredients. Eating one will temporarily boost Link's defense.[18]
  • Sneaky Fruitcake:[19] Made using sneaky ingredients. When eaten, these cakes will increase Link's Stealth for a short period of time.[19]
