The Era of Myth is an Era in the Zelda Timeline.[1]

Overview

The Era of Myth is an era defined by a collection of legends and events that have become indistinguishable from myths within the Kingdom of Hyrule's long history.[2] The Era of Myth begins with the age of the goddess Hylia, in which Demise was sealed away.[3] After this, during the events of Skyward Sword, Link defeats Demise in the past, cursing the Kingdom of Hyrule with a seemingly endless cycle of darkness and light. During the events of Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda is transported to the founding of Hyrule during Era of Myth, where she meets its first rulers, Rauru and Sonia.[4][5]

Zonai

Main article: Zonai

The Zonai were a people said to be descendants of gods and originated from the Sky.[6] When they descended to the Surface, they brought seven Secret Stones with them, which are treasures given to them by those same gods.[6] Over time, a majority of the Zonai vanished, leaving the siblings Mineru and Rauru as their last members.[7] Mineru's Secret Stone of Spirit gave her the power to detach her Spirit from her body, while Rauru's Secret Stone enhanced his power of Light.[8] Rauru married Sonia, a Hylian priestess, and he shared a Secret Stone with her that strengthened her power over Time.[8][9]

Founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule

Using their Secret Stones, Rauru and Sonia established Hyrule Kingdom.[9] Their castle was located near the Temple of Time on the Great Plateau, which has since been referred to as the birthplace of Hyrule.[10] They also created the Shrines of Light to seal away Monsters that would threaten their citizens.[11] As leaders, Rauru and Sonia reached out to neighboring peoples to join their kingdom and swear a vow of fealty to them, including the Gerudo.[12]

  4. "After disappearing into the depths under the castle, Zelda wakes up and meets two strangers who introduce themselves as King Rauru and Queen Sonia. She's left startled by a suspicion that she's heard those names before." — Adventure Log (Tears of the Kingdom)
  5. "Looking out across the world she's found herself in, Zelda realizes she's traveled to the ancient past and questions how she can get back to her own time. Sonia offers some helpful thoughts, but it's Rauru who realizes his older sister, Mineru, might know a way Zelda can travel forward in time." — Adventure Log (Tears of the Kingdom)
  6. 6.0 6.1 "Long ago, my people, known as the Zonai, came down from the heavens to the surface of the world. It was said they were descendants of gods... They bore treasures from these same gods—secret stones, capable of amplifying the abilities of those who possessed them." — Mineru (Tears of the Kingdom)
  7. "It is my honor. When your Zonai ancestors first descended upon these lands long, long ago, they must have seemed to be gods. And now you rule as king and have taken a Hyrulean woman as your wife. Your Majesty has certainly risen above your admirable lineage. Most impressive. It is unfortunate that the noble Zonai no longer grace this world with their presence. All except you and your sister, that is." — Ganondorf (Tears of the Kingdom)
  8. 8.0 8.1 "To put it simply, secrets stones amplify the power their owners possess. I am able to separate my spirit from my body. Rauru can repel or destroy evil with his power of light. And Sonia, she can control time." — Mineru (Tears of the Kingdom)
  9. 9.0 9.1 "Rauru gifted Sonia one of the secret stones. Together they sought to establish their kingdom. This is how the kingdom of Hyrule, with Rauru and Sonia as its first king and queen, came to be. The future looked bright..." — Mineru (Tears of the Kingdom)
  10. "[Where are we?] Answering a question with a question. That is fair enough. As I cannot imagine our meeting to be a simple coincidence...I shall tell you. This is the Great Plateau. According to legend, this is the birthplace of the entire kingdom of Hyrule." — Old Man (Breath of the Wild)
  11. "The subject here is the actions King Rauru and Queen Sonia undertook not long after Hyrule's founding. With the kingdom established, they were worried for their people, so they set out to eradicate the monsters troubling them. They created structures called Shrines of Light to seal the monsters away so that they could never be revived." — Wortsworth (Tears of the Kingdom)
  12. "Allow me to offer you my deepest apologies... on behalf of the Gerudo... for taking so long to accept your repeated invitations. It is our desire to be accepted into the protective embrace of your kingdom. To serve it faithfully." — Ganondorf (Tears of the Kingdom)
"A welcome appeal, Ganondorf. I will accept your vow of fealty to the kingdom of Hyrule. I understand that a single male is born to the Gerudo every one hundred years. Receiving such an appeal from you, a hero to his people and a king by birth... Well, it is truly reassuring." — Rauru (Tears of the Kingdom)
