Letters are important trade items in many games in The Legend of Zelda series.
Appearances
The Legend of Zelda
In The Legend of Zelda, Link can receive the Letter by the Old Man in a northeast cave of Hyrule. When Link shows the Letter to various Old Women, they will sell him Life Potions and 2nd Potions.
Link's Awakening
In Link's Awakening, a letter is part of the game's trading sequence. The letter is obtained from Christine, a goat from Animal Village, when Link gives her the Hibiscus. This letter is for Mr. Write, and is apparently a love letter - however, the photo that Christine has enclosed is, in fact, merely a photo of Princess Peach. In exchange for receiving the letter, Mr. Write will give Link a broom.

The Wind Waker
- See also: Father's Letter, Letter Sorting, Maggie's Letter, and Moblin's Letter
In The Wind Waker, letters are carried in the Delivery Bag. More often than not, these letters are to be delivered than received. Curiously they cannot be posted, despite the presence of Postboxes on most islands on the Great Sea.
Four Swords Adventures
In Four Swords Adventures, Sweetie gives Link a Letter for her boyfriend, meant to repair their relationship. If he successfully brings the letter to Sweetie's boyfriend in the Village of the Blue Maiden, Link will be rewarded with the Roc's Feather.
Twilight Princess
Throughout Twilight Princess, the Postman will deliver letters to Link. The letters can only be kept and reviewed later in Twilight Princess.
A complete letter collection will contain 16 letters.
Phantom Hourglass
Link never actually receives his mail. The Rito postman will fly to the wobbling postbox after Link checks it, and read the letters to Link. Link can mail the Prize Postcard anytime after receiving it from the Man of Smiles. On the next day, he will have a response on whether he won or lost the drawing. Fuzo will send a letter after any 4 new Big Plays were earned in Battle Mode, informing Link of his prize in waiting.
Spirit Tracks
Letters make a reappearance in Spirit Tracks. The Postman no longer reads them to Link, as there are new policies in place that prevent him from doing so.
