Rusty Gear is a recurring archetype of Weapon in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed]
Location and Uses
Breath of the Wild
Rusty Gear consists of Weapons that were once used by Knights of Hyrule.[2][3] Over time, lack of maintenance and exposure to the elements have decayed the quality of these Weapons, causing them to become brittle and lowering their Durability.[2][3][4][5]
If a piece of Rusty Gear is placed in front of a Rock Octorok while it is inhaling air, it will swallow the Weapon and pause to crunch it in its mouth.[1] After this, it will shoot it back out as a cleaned counterpart.[1] After being cleaned, there is a 50% chance that the item will be its corresponding item in the Traveler's Gear archetype, a 35% chance that it will be of the Soldier's Gear, a 10% chance that it will be of the Knight's Gear, and a 5% chance that it will be of the Royal Gear.
As Rusty Gear is made from metal, all Weapons in this series sink when placed in Water, but they do not burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate. They will attract Lightning during Thunderstorms and conduct Electricity, and they can be manipulated through the Magnesis Rune.
When scanned with the amiibo Rune, the Breath of the Wild Series Guardian amiibo has a chance to spawn a Treasure Chest containing a piece of Rusty Gear.
List of Equipment
Item | Strength | Durability | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Rusty Broadsword |
6 | 8 | This once-fearsome sword has seen better days. It can do some damage in the right hands but also breaks quickly. |
Rusty Claymore |
12 | 10 | A two-handed sword not properly cared for. Although it can be used as a weapon, its durability is very low. Don't expect it to last for more than a few strikes. |
Rusty Halberd |
5 | 15 | A rusty polearm likely used by knights from an age past. The spearhead is in bad shape due to prolonged exposure to the elements, so its durability is low. |
Rusty Shield |
3 | It's likely this rusty old shield once belonged to a knight. It still has some defensive capabilities, but its usefulness has been worn down by time. |
