Dayto is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Biography

Breath of the Wild

Dayto is a Hylian traveler who can be found walking the Mountain Road from Foothill Stable and through the Maw of Death Mountain before heading back. At Foothill Stable, he sits at the table inside, where he asserts that he does not need to make a choice about whether he goes east or west.[3] He carries a Hunter's Shield and a Traveler's Sword.

Dayto is a very indecisive man who cannot decide on what he wants to do.[4] He struggles with whether he should check his map,[5][6] his method of travel,[7][8] and whether he can obtain a Fireproof Elixir.[9] He looks back on his past choices occasionally and wonders whether he made the right decisions.[10][11]

One of Dayto's many worries is whether he should traverse Death Mountain.[12][13] If there are other people up there, though, he believes he could sell to them.[14] He is unsure if he should try to withstand the heat, since he will end up sweating either way.[15][16]

Dayto is also unsure of when to end his journey. At the end of the Maw of Death Mountain, he asks himself whether he should fight the Enemies ahead or flee.[17][18] He also debates whether to continue, quit, or take a nap.[19]

During the night, Dayto struggles with whether or not he should sleep.[20][21] Even then, he has difficulties choosing a spot to rest.[22]

Dayto is troubled by the current state of Hyrule, calling it bleak and noting the cause of his worries cease when he takes a break.[23] He can only find respite when it is Raining, and he asks not to be bothered during this time.[24]

If Link saves Dayto from Monsters, he initially has difficulty believing the danger is over.[25] He's scared of Monsters,[26] even describing himself as drenched with sweat after seeing Monsters.[27] He will give the hero Tough Poultry Curry and Rupees as thanks.[28] Along his journey, he encounters the Guardian Stalker by Gero Pond, which he runs from in terror.[29][30][31]
