Fortified Pumpkins are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Fortified Pumpkins are one of three foodstuffs favoured by the Sheikah race, with the others being Swift Carrots and Mighty Bananas. They are primarily and exclusively cultivated by the Sheikah farmer Olkin, who sells 8 from his field in Kakariko Village. They can also be purchased from the travelling merchant Cambo or dropped by defeated Hinoxes.

Eaten raw, Fortified Pumpkins restore half of a Hearts. They can also be roasted by a Fire to create Baked Fortified Pumpkins. When cooked in a dish, the resulting food temporarily provides Link with superior defense.[1] At the Kochi Dye Shop, Fortified Pumpkins can be used to create Orange Dye.

Olkin sells his pumpkins from his field because his rival, Steen, refuses to have them stocked at his wife's shop. There are nine pumpkin plants in the patch, yet only eight bear fruit, with Olkin tending to the ninth; this is likely where Mellie gets the Fortified Pumpkins to cook. During the evening, Olkin's wife Mellie cooks him dishes containing many fortified pumpkins,[4] which Olkin feels is way better than Swift Carrots.[5] Some may also be purchased from Cambo as he leaves Kakariko Village, implying he bought some from Olkin, however this does not reduce Olkin's stock.

As part of the Side Quest "Riddles of Hyrule", Walton will ask Link to bring him Kakariko Village's specialty fruit, which has rock-hard flesh.[6] If Link returns with a Fortified Pumpkin, Walton will be excited he figured the riddle out and move on to the next one.[7]

At Cooking Pots, Fortified Pumpkins are necessary to make Pumpkin Stew, Tough Meat-Stuffed Pumpkin, and Pumpkin Pie. A Fortified Pumpkin, an Endura Carrot, or a Swift Carrot are needed to make Veggie Cream Soup, Vegetable Risotto, and Vegetable Curry.
