Not to be confused with Challenge Mode, a Mode from Hyrule Warriors.

Challenges are recurring Modes in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name references needed]

Overview

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

See SmashWiki's article on Challenges for more information.

There are 128 Challenges in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, presented on a menu as four rows of 32 shelves covered by opaque glass. Whenever one of their criteria is met, the player is taken to the Challenges screen following the battle or mode they are playing, and its glass cover is broken, giving up the reward inside. Possible rewards include Trophies, Stickers, CDs, Stages, Stage Builder parts, and Masterpieces.

Five of the Challenges also reward the player with a Golden Hammer, a single-use item that can break nearly any window, bypassing its Challenge. In the North American and Japanese versions of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, several of the windows are immune to the Golden Hammer. However, none of the The Legend of Zelda-related Challenges either supply or are immune to Golden Hammers.

Completing a Challenge also turns the glass cover translucent for the two Challenges to its left and right, revealing their criteria and silhouettes of their rewards. A total of six of the Challenges have The Legend of Zelda-themed rewards.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

See SmashWiki's article on Challenges for more information.

There are 105 Challenges, across three separate panels of 35, in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The second and third panels, which contain Challenges that increase in difficulty, are locked at the beginning of the game. Though the player can meet the conditions for these locked Challenges, they will only count as "completed" and give up their rewards once the panel is unlocked. The second panel is unlocked by completing all Challenges from the first panel; the third panel is unlocked by completing 25 Challenges from the second panel.

When a Challenge is completed, a screenshot representing it is shown on the upper screen. Four Challenges have The Legend of Zelda-themed rewards, while a further 15 contain The Legend of Zelda-related content in their images.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Besides the Scenarios that make up the main story, there are Challenges in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. These Challenges yield Materials after clearing them for the first time. Pulse of the Ancients and Guardian of Remembrance add EX Vicious Monster Battles, a type of respawning Challenge where the chosen Warriors face a certain Vicious Monster. In Divine Beast Battles, one of the four Divine Beasts is piloted, instead of controlling a standard Warrior.
