Hammer Switches can be activated with a Hammer.[2] When pressed, they can open Gates and activate Warships.
Hammer Switch
Hammer Switches are recurring Objects in The Legend of Zelda series.(HWLHyrule Warriors Legends | HWDEHyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition)[1] Hammer Switches go unnamed in The Wind Waker.
Location and Uses
Hammer Switches are Stake-like objects with a flat surface on top, attached to a base that is fastened to the ground. When Link strikes the top of the Stake with a Hammer, they act as any other type of Switch, activating an event or causing a change to the environment. As their effects are permanent, the Stake remains pressed into the base afterward, except in cases where multiple Switches will revert to their default state if not all of them are activated within a time limit.
While several other types of Switches can be activated using Hammers, including Shock Switches and some Floor Switches, Hammer Switches require a Hammer to activate them, and therefore can restrict access to certain areas or effects until Link has acquired such an Item.
The Wind Waker
Hammer Switches appear on several islands and Dungeons in The Wind Waker. On Western Fairy Island and Thorned Fairy Island, access to the islands' Fairy Fountains is blocked by obstacles that will retract when the nearby Hammer Switches are pressed using the Skull Hammer. Similarly on Shark Island, a Hammer Switch is one of the four different types of Switches that must be activated within a time limit to unlock the island's Secret Cave.
Several Hammer Switches appear in the Earth Temple, where they are used to unlock doors and activate Light Beams. In one early room, the Hammer Switch is hidden within a batch of Paralyzing Fog, which must first be dispersed.
The 43rd floor of the Savage Labyrinth contains a Hammer Switch that must be pressed before any Enemies will appear, making the Skull Hammer a required Item to complete the mini-Dungeon.
