Biography
The Adventure of Link

The King of Hyrule was the last in a long line of Kings who wielded the entire Triforce, a practice that began sometime following the events of Echoes of Wisdom.[8] In the backstory of The Adventure of Link, it is revealed that there was once a great and wise King of Hyrule that governed the land with the strength of the united Triforce as his command.[9] However, the King too was human and, anticipating his death, he hoped to find someone with the innate qualities that were fitting of a worthy possessor of the Triforce for if it were to fall in the wrong hands, evil would befall Hyrule.[10][11] Unfortunately, he was unable to find any such person during his lifespan and, since his own son did not fit this archetype for being worthy to possess the one true Triforce,[12] the King elected to split the relic into its three parts, leaving the Triforce of Power and the Triforce of Wisdom within the kingdom.[13]
The Triforce of Courage, however, shared a different fate than that of its counterparts. In secret, the King spirited this piece of the Triforce away to the distant and dangerous Valley of Death, where he concealed the relic within the deepest sanctums of the Great Palace[14] that was set at the head of the valley, guarded by many powerful Monsters handpicked by the King himself.[15][16] The King cast a magical barrier over the entire Valley of Death, one that would not grant entry to the valley until six special Crystals were restored to their respective statues in six other palaces that lay across Hyrule. He also secretly cast a spell over all of Hyrule, one that would, at some point in time when a worthy person was born and came of age, cause the symbol of the Triforce to appear on the back of the hand of this special individual, marking him as the King’s chosen person to reclaim the Triforce of Courage.[17] Soon after this, the King’s time was drawing to a close, and before he died, he confided what he had done only to his daughter, Princess Zelda, choosing to not tell any of the secrets of the Triforce to his son.[18]

After the King’s death, the Prince of Hyrule hoped to claim the Triforce, but he was angered and dismayed to find that he would only inherit it in part.[18] He searched the kingdom high and low for the third piece, but was unsuccessful.[18] After being told by a mysterious Magician that the king had told Princess Zelda about the Triforce's whereabouts, the Prince confronted his sister, but she refused to tell him of the king's secret even after threatened of being put into an eternal sleep.[19] Angered, the magician decided to cast the spell on the princess against the prince's wishes, and at the same time that Princess Zelda fell, the magician also breathed his last and died.[20]
Link would eventually appear with the mark of the Triforce on his hand and hence be the one chosen by the King of Hyrule. After being told of the King's history by Impa, he ventures off to place the six Crystals in the palaces around Hyrule, enter the Great Palace, obtain the Triforce of Courage and thus awake the slumbering princess, granting the King's wishes.

Hyrule Castle Town |
The King of Hyrule is the father of Princess Zelda and the reigning monarch of Hyrule Kingdom. He is assisted by two attendants: Minister Lefte and General Wright. He is also known to regularly make public appearances in Hyrule Castle Town.[21]

When Zelda returns to Hyrule Castle Town after being kidnapped by Ganon, she is told to meet with the King of Hyrule in Hyrule Castle's Throne Room.[22] Upon entering the Throne Room, the King can be seen pacing back and forth. He, Minister Lefte, and General Wright are all surprised when Zelda approaches them. Although Lefte and Wright try to apologize for not finding her sooner, the King tells them not to ruin a happy occasion with their regrets.[23] He then commends Zelda for her return and asks that she comes closer.[6] Seeing Zelda before him, he is relieved to see that she is safe.[24]
The King of Hyrule then asks Zelda to explain what happened while she was gone.[25] He is shocked to hear that she was saved by a swordsman who fell into a Rift, and he hopes that the swordsman is safe.[26] The King reflects on Hyrule's history with Rifts, noting that they have never been able to prevent them from appearing and stealing people away.[27] Since Zelda's disappearance, Rifts have been appearing more frequently.[28] The King decides that they should focus on locating the missing swordsman.[29]

A Soldier enters the Throne Room with a report about the Rifts, and the King of Hyrule prompts him for the details.[30] The Soldier relays to pieces of news. The first is that a resident of Suthorn Village fell into a Rift, and the second is that Monsters are appearing from a Rift in Hyrule Field and attacking.[31] Concerned, the King thanks the Soldier for his report and orders him to prepare his battalion for combat.[32] The King then begins issuing commands to Minister Lefte and General Wright.[33] He has Lefte continue her research into Rifts, while Wright is to lead their troops into Hyrule Field.[34][35] His goal is to save those who have been stolen away.[36] Suddenly, a Rift forms on the throne. While the King is able to push Zelda to safety, he and his attendants are stolen away. The King of Hyrule? emerges from the Rift, alongside impostors of Lefte and Wright. The false King accuses Zelda of creating the Rift and orders that she be imprisoned.[37]
In order to clear Zelda's name, Tri suggests that she rescue the King of Hyrule from the Still World.[38] To this end, the pair explore Rifts in the Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters as part of the Main Quest "Searching for Everyone".[39] However, they are unable to find him in either of these Rifts.[40] As Zelda and Tri traverse the Still World version of Hyrule Castle during the Main Quest "Still Missing", they discover the King petrified in the Throne Room.[41] Tri assures Zelda that he will be restored once they mend the Rift.[42]

After Zelda defeat Ganon, Tri Warps her back to Hyrule Castle's Throne Room. Their attention is drawn to the King's groaning,[43] and they find him collapsed in front of the throne. Despite Zelda's Disguise, the King immediately recognizes her, though he is confused as to what happened.[44] With Zelda's help, he remembers that he fell into the Rift.[45] He thanks her for saving him and asks what has happened while he was gone.[46] He is distressed when he hears that Zelda has been in dangerous situations while mending Rifts, but he is also proud of her.[47] Two Soldiers enter the Throne Room to check on the King, but they become hostile when they notice Zelda.[48] The King informs them that the intruder is actually Zelda.[49] The Soldiers still believe that Zelda is responsible for creating Rifts, which the King disputes.[50] He sends Zelda to rest in her Room, promising to clear her name in the meantime.[51]
While Zelda rests, Tri shares the details of their journey so far with the King of Hyrule and Impa.[52][53] When she wakes up, Impa relays a message from the King to meet him in the Throne Room.[54] Zelda can find him waiting for her there with Impa, Minister Lefte, General Wright, and Lueburry. The King greets Zelda upon seeing her and begins their meeting.[55] He wants to plan their next steps toward restoring peace to Hyrule.[52] Tri suggests that there is a greater force creating the Echoes they have faced, which the King believes is the figure that attacked Zelda in the Still World.[56]
Suddenly, a Soldier arrives with news that three large Rifts have appeared.[57] Shocked, the King asks where they are.[58] Upon hearing that they are at Eldin Volcano, the Faron Wetlands, and Holy Mount Lanayru, he wonders if there is a connection to the Prime Energy.[59] He explains that the Prime Energy is a source of power left behind by the Golden Goddesses, which the Royal Family of Hyrule has passed down legends of.[60] He also shares another legend, which states that a priestess and a hero will appear to defend the Prime Energy from evil.[61] Tri identifies Zelda as the priestess, and the King deduces that Link is the hero.[62] As a result, the King commands Zelda to mend the Rifts and work with Link to defeat their enemy.[63] He is saddened that Zelda will have to take on such a burden, but he offers to support her as best he can.[64] The King then issues orders to Minister Lefte and General Wright. Lefte is to work with Lueburry to research and monitor Rifts, while Wright and his Soldiers are to fight off Monsters.[65] The King then tells Impa to provide Zelda with special garments.[66] Zelda returns to the Throne Room wearing the Royal Travel Attire, which the King claims is an heirloom of the Royal Family.[67] At the end of their conversation, he asks Zelda to protect Hyrule.[68] The Main Quests "Lands of the Goddesses" and "Rescuing the Hero Link" then begin. If Zelda speaks to the King during this time, he tells her that she is the only one who can mend the Rifts.[69]

Trivia

- A tomb known as the King's Tomb appears in the game and is generally considered to be the tomb of the ancient King of Hyrule that mastered the Triforce in its entirety. The tomb rests in the heart of the Graveyard to the southwest of the Mido Town and can be easily spotted as a lone cross in the center of the Graveyard.

Then, the prince of the kingdom should have become king and inherited everything, but he could inherit the Triforce only in part. The king has stopped appearing in public. Same for the general and minister. And I heard that a rift opened right up inside the castle. What's to come of Hyrule?
— Hylian (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Princess Zelda, now that we've arrived, please allow me to welcome you back as well. May I suggest you promptly speak with the king? I'm sure he'll be deeply relieved to hear that you've returned safe and sound.
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Oh, Princess! What an absolute joy to see you safe and well! Despite that joy, I...feel ashamed that we were unable to find you...
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)On behalf of Minister Lefte and me, please accept our apologies, Princess!
— General Wright (Echoes of Wisdom)General Wright. Minister Lefte. I appreciate your sentiments, but let's not dull this joyous moment with our regrets.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Ah, I am so relieved... You are healthy and whole and well.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
So, tell us, Zelda. What happened to you?
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
A swordsman in green saved you from a fell beast! Quite the tale... But after defeating the monster, the swordsman was taken by a rift... It's him we have to thank for saving your life. Hm...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom)So he was pulled into a rift... Another one, stolen away.
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)Indeed. I hope he is safe.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
An unsettling phenomenon. Our fair Hyrule has continually been plagued with these rifts and disappearances. As you know, rifts have been appearing for a long time, claiming our young ones... Indeed, so many children have been stolen away. We've remained vigilant... But despite our best efforts, we've never been able to prevent the rifts from appearing. Ultimately, those who've experienced losses have been left to contend with their grief...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Now, I've been receiving reports about people disappearing from every corner of Hyrule.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom)And it isn't just children anymore. Adults are disappearing too.
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)What could be causing such an uptick?
— General Wright (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
For now, we should also work on finding the swordsman in the green tunic—and with haste.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your majesty!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)What is it, soldier?
— General Wright (Echoes of Wisdom)Urgent news! The rifts! They're causing serious trouble!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)Oh no!
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)Please, soldier. What are the details?
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Firstly, we received word that someone from Suthorn Village was swallowed up by a rift. Then we also received news of dark monsters attacking people in Hyrule Field.
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
That is troubling news indeed. Thank you for your report, soldier. Tell the rest of your battalion to prepare for departure immediately.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom)Yes, Your Majesty!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
General! Minister!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Minister Lefte, continue your investigation into the rift phenomenon. I am expecting you to find a way to save any and all who have vanished into the rifts.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
General Wright, I leave the monsters to you. Prepare your troops, and head into battle.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
This crisis must be dealt with. Continue looking into the rifts, and locate those who've been lost!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My daughter created the rift you see behind me. We cannot leave such horrible power unchecked. Disturbing though it may be, General Wright and Minister Lefte bore witness as well. Well? Don't just stand there! Lock her up at once!
— King of Hyrule? (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I think if we could save the people who've been taken into rifts, we could reveal the truth. But none of those people will be able to get out on their own. We have to save them together, Zelda.
— Tri (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
The king of Hyrule and the others might be inside different large rifts. Head to the rifts in the Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters.
— Adventure Log (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
The king of Hyrule and Link are still missing, even after mending the large rifts. Return to Lueburry's house, and share everything that has happened.
— Adventure Log (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
You finally found the king of Hyrule in the throne room inside the rift! Mend the Hyrule Castle rift and save everyone.
— Adventure Log (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
So your father was here all along. Don't worry, Zelda. Once we mend the rift, he'll go back to normal.
— Tri (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Oh...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Zelda! Where... Where am I? The castle? Everything feels hazy...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Ah, I recall it now! I was pulled into a rift!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Ah, my dear daughter... You saved me. Thank you. What has happened to Hyrule in my absence?
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I... I see. You have put your own safety at risk. You have done so to protect our people—to save Hyrule. Zelda. My brave and selfless daughter. I am so very, very proud of you. Well done.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your Majesty!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)Are you all right?!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)Halt! Intruder!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Stand down, soldiers. Have a closer look. It is my daughter, Zelda.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Princess Zelda?!
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)But Princess Zelda was the one creating the rifts, wasn't she?
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)My daughter? Creating rifts? It seems the impostor posing as me has spread some damaging untruths.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I will clear up the misunderstandings. Please, go rest for now. You have done well. Thank you, Zelda.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑ 52.0 52.1
It is time for us to discuss next steps. Tri informed us earlier about what is occurring in Hyrule. Through your hard work and determination, the large rifts have been tended to. Still, peace has not been restored to Hyrule. There is work yet to be done.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Tri told us everything, about how you faced extreme evil, putting yourself in peril. All to save us—to save your kingdom. You pushed yourself, Princess, but you are safe now.
— Impa (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Well, my apologies for disturbing you so soon after waking, but I bring a message from the king. He requests you come to the throne room once you are fully rested. I will go on ahead. We'll be waiting for you.
— Impa (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Ah, Zelda. I trust you got some rest. Now, then. We are all here.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Right. The Ganon we fought beneath the castle was an echo. He was created... So it's possible that the monsters that captured my friends were also echoes like Ganon.
— Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)Initially, I deduced that everything had been at the hands of that monster, Ganon... That following Link's defeat of Ganon, we were seeing the aftereffects of their battle. But, Tri, you believe we may have been facing a different enemy all along?
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)And Link saved Zelda from this mysterious foe...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Your Majesty! Large rifts are opening up all across Hyrule again! Three of them at once this time...
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
No... Where are these rifts appearing?
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
They have appeared in Eldin Volcano, Faron Wetlands, and Holy Mount Lanayru, Sire.
— Soldier (Echoes of Wisdom)Eldin, Faron, and Lanayru. I wonder. Considering those locations, then could it be...
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom)What is it, Sire?
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)Those regions connect directly with the Prime Energy!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
The Prime Energy—a source of power beyond our understanding, left behind by the godesses. The knowledge of its existence has been passed down through the royal family since long ago. Those three regions connect to the three goddesses and, in turn, to the Prime Energy.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
There are yet more legends passed down by the royal family of Hyrule... "When evil strives for the Prime Energy, a wise priestess and a courageous hero will appear." "Together, the priestess and the hero will rend this evil asunder."
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Zelda has gotten rid of many rifts... Could Zelda be the priestess of legend?
— Tri (Echoes of Wisdom)She... She must be! But then, who is this hero?
— Minister Lefte (Echoes of Wisdom)Perhaps it is the swordsman, Link?
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Zelda. Mend the three rifts in the regions connected to the goddesses. This will thwart our enemy. In order to stop the enemy completely, however, you must do even more than that. You have to find the hero Link, and the two of you must join forces, fighting together.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
My daughter. I have only ever wished for a peaceful life for you. But it seems that fate has other plans. You are the priestess of legend, the hope of Hyrule. We will do everything in our power to support you on this most dire journey.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Minister Lefte. You are to continue working with Lueburry, monitoring the rifts. General Wright. Lead your soldiers to contend with the monsters across Hyrule.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
Impa. It is time. Provide Zelda with the garments.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
These are your ancestral vestments—passed down through the royal family. They will be perfect for your needs as you continue on your quest.
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
I imagine the enemy's ultimate aim is to obtain the Prime Energy. We do not yet know the enemy's true nature, but I fear that Hyrule is in grave danger. As a leader of Hyrule and the priestess of legend, please do what you must to protect our kingdom!
— King of Hyrule (Echoes of Wisdom) - ↑
We must disrupt the enemy's plans and mend the three regions that have been swallowed by rifts. Zelda, you are the only one who can do what must be done.
