Carben's Letter, also called "From Carben",[1] is an Item in Spirit Tracks.[2] As its name suggests, it is a Letter from Carben.

Location and Uses

Unlike most Letters in Spirit Tracks, which are delivered to Link by the Postman, Carben's Letter is given directly to Link by Carben after the two play the Song of Restoration to restore the Spirit Tracks leading to the Ocean Temple. Carben forgets how to access the Ocean Floor where the Temple awaits,[3] but had fortunately written the Letter to himself as a reminder.[4] Attached to the Letter is a map of the Ocean Realm with three numbers written at the locations of the statues holding glowing red orbs. The Letter reads,

Dear Self,
I know you'll forget, so I'm
leaving you instructions to
get to the ocean floor.
        -- Carben

While driving the Spirit Train toward the statues, Link passes Ferrus taking photographs of the newly-restored Spirit Tracks.[5] If the young hero stops to talk, he will learn from Ferrus that the statues respond to "big noises", hinting that he must sound the Train Whistle while driving past them.[6] Doing so in the order shown in Carben's Letter opens the pathway to the Ocean Floor.
