Not to be confused with Wall Merging, an ability used by Yuga and Link in A Link Between Worlds.

Paintings,[1] also known as Portraits,[2] are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.

Location and Uses

A Link Between Worlds

Paintings play a major role in the story and in the development of Link's ability to Wall Merge thanks to Ravio's Bracelet. Yuga, the main villain, is able to transform people into Paintings, leaving his transformed victims helpless against walls. Yuga traverses Hyrule looking for the Seven Sages and Princess Zelda, only to later turn them into special Paintings called Portraits.

These Painting forms are unlike normal paintings, however, and prove to be very hard to remove from the surface they are stuck to. Hyrule Soldiers can be seen trying to remove Paintings of enemy Soldiers off the walls of Hyrule Castle, with very little success.[3]

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

In Hyrule Warriors, the Portraits of the Seven Sages and Princess Zelda can be seen during Yuga's victory animation as if he is performing the ritual to revive Ganon. In Hyrule Warriors Legends, Yuga can also be seen holding the Portrait of Princess Zelda before putting it away in his intro cutscene.
