Fruitcakes are recurring Meals in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Fruitcakes are a type of Cake made by Cooking either an Apple or a Wildberry, any Fruit, Tabantha Wheat, and Cane Sugar together in a Cooking Pot. Regular versions of Fruitcake can be made by only using ingredients that do not grant any effects. They can be eaten to restore some Hearts to Link's Life Gauge. Fruitcakes make use of fruits found all over Hyrule Kingdom, and they are commonly used in celebrations.[1]

The first Castle Library Book outlines the recipe for Fruitcake, noting it to be a secret of the Royal Family of Hyrule and Zelda's favorite food.[4] The Book suggests boiling two or more pieces of Fruit with Tabantha Wheat and Cane Sugar for a while.[5] This dish is known to help clear one's head and help with focus, which Zelda apparently took advantage of while she researched Ancient Technology.[6]

As part of the "A Royal Recipe" Side Quest, Link can give Gotter at Riverside Stable a Fruitcake.[7] After eating it, he at first describes it as having a refreshing aroma, reminiscent of galloping across the planes on horseback.[8] However, he states that undersells the complexity of the dish, saying it fills him with the intensity of being seen by a Guardian.[9] Gotter calls Fruitcake an elegant dish and explains he never thought he would taste something so thrilling.[10] As a reward, he will give Link a Silver Rupee.[11]

Several different variations of Fruitcake can be made, based on both the kind of Fruit used and whether any additional ingredients are added:

  • Enduring Fruitcake:[14] Made using enduring ingredients. If they are eaten, they will completely refill and overfill Link's Stamina Wheel.[14]
  • Energizing Fruitcake:[15] Made using energizing ingredients. When eaten, they will replenish a portion of Link's Stamina Wheel.[15]
  • Hasty Fruitcake:[16] Made using Fleet-Lotus Seeds or other hasty ingredients. Eating them will increase Link's movement speed for a short period of time.[16]
  • Hearty Fruitcake:[17] Made using Hearty Durians or other hearty ingredients. Eating these cakes will completely heal all of Link's Hearts and grant him temporary Hearts.[17]
  • Mighty Fruitcake:[18] Made using Mighty Bananas or other mighty ingredients. If eaten, they increase the power of Link's attacks for a short time.[18]
  • Sneaky Fruitcake:[19] Made using sneaky ingredients. When eaten, these Cakes will increase Link's Stealth for a short period of time.[19]
  • Tough Fruitcake:[21] Made using tough ingredients. Eating one will temporarily boost Link's defense.[21]

The recipe for Fruitcake is earned by completing the Quest "Afternoon Tea at Hyrule Castle". It is made using four Wildberries, four Hydromelons, four Tabantha Wheat, and four Cane Sugars. However, it can be lowered to three of each ingredient through the completion of "Hungry Hunches". When prepared before a Challenge or Scenario, Enemies will have a 30% higher chance of dropping Materials.

As part of the Quest "Made with Love", Terrako wishes to make a Fruitcake for Zelda to show its appreciation for her.[22] Once it has the ingredients, Terrako presents her with the Fruitcake, and the two spend the afternoon with each other.[23]
