Horseshoe Island is a location in The Wind Waker.[1]

Features and Overview

Fishman's Commenthide ▲

On the island due east of here lives an old man who was once a master swordsman. He's got proof of it, too: he has a Knight's Crest. Want to know what that thing is, fry?

Well, too bad... I can't go giving away every secret!

Horseshoe Island

Head east from there, and you'll get to Outset Island. Outset Island was said to be blessed by Farore, the Goddess of Wind.

Horseshoe Island is unique in that it contains a miniature golf course. In order to clear the course, Link must both throw and blow the nuts with the help of the Deku Leaf into the holes near the flags; to do so, he uses the Wind Waker to adjust the direction of the Wind, so that it favors the motion of the nuts. The young hero must be careful, though, for giant, spiky plants will be blocking his way in each of the holes. Once Link completes all three of the holes, he can drop into the grotto at the end to fight one Winged Mothula and two wingless ones to obtain Treasure Chart #8.

A second Treasure Chart can be retrieved by gliding to the center of the island using the Deku Leaf. A Treasure Chest will be there containing Treasure Chart #28.

Trivia

  • Due to time constraints, the idea for Horseshoe Island was abandoned near the game's deadline. However, the developers entered their office one morning and were shocked to discover that Horseshoe Island had been fully programmed into the game unbeknownst to them. Eiji Aonuma, the game's director, theorized that somebody must have sneaked in after hours and built it themselves without anyone else knowing[2].
