The Kakariko Windmill refers generally to both the interior and exterior of the windmill in Kakariko Village. The windmill houses Guru Guru, an exit from the village graveyard (which can provide access to a Piece of Heart) and oddly enough, an almost-useless secret passageway which can be accessed from the village area with the hookshot. Here, a cucco is located-to help access unreachable rooftops. At certain points of the storyline of Ocarina of Time the windmill ceases to operate and can be restored (although often temporarily) by embarking on the Song of Storms sub-quest and playing this song on the ocarina.

There is a similarity between the principles of the windmill in Ocarina of Time and the ferris wheel in The Wind Waker (Windfall Island)-although in the latter, Link must change the direction of the wind to activate the sails of the "windmill" as opposed to creating a storm.

The Windmill Hut, and known as "?", is the interior of Kakariko Windmill and home to Guru Guru. It is connected to Dampé's crypt, and draws its power from the well. Link can teach and learn the Song of Storms to/from Guru Guru here. This article is about the location in Ocarina of Time. For other subjects relating to Windmills, see Windmill (Disambiguation).

The Kakariko Windmill is a location in Ocarina of Time.[1]

Features and Overview

The Kakariko Windmill is used to draw up water from the nearby well.[2] To reach the upper level from the outside, Link must use the Longshot to grapple to a small wooden post located in an opening on the left of the Windmill. Once inside, he can go up some stairs to find a lone Cucco.

Inside the Kakariko Windmill, Link can find the Phonogram Man who is trying to come up with a musical theme inspired by it.[3] As an adult, Link can go inside the Kakariko Windmill and speak with the Phonogram Man, who recalls that seven years ago, a kid came and played a strange melody, causing the Windmill to speed up drastically.[4] If Link shows him the Ocarina of Time, the Phonogram Man will teach him the "Song of Storms", which, paradoxically, is the song Link played for him seven years earlier.[5] Link can then go back to the past and play that same melody inside the Kakariko Windmill, which will drain the well, allowing entry to its bottom.

If Link enters the Kakariko Windmill from Dampé's grave, he can reach the Piece of Heart on an upper ledge by jumping on the moving platforms. Alternatively, Link can also get it by using the Boomerang.
