Guides are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3][4] They are characters or objects that help Link at various points in his quest by providing either hints or outright advice. Guides typically communicate with Link via telepathy. They do not accompany Link, unlike partners.

The Gossip Stone is the most common Guide. Fortune tellers often serve as optional Guides that charge for their services.

It first meets Link after he leaves the Kokiri Forest and instructs him to go to Hyrule Castle and meet Princess Zelda.[5] Afterwards, it assists Link many more times. Kaepora Gaebora

Kaepora Gaebora makes its return in Majora's Mask, wherein it acts as a guide for Link as it did in Ocarina of Time. In the original version of Majora's Mask, it first encounters Link as he is about to enter Woodfall. It directs him to learn the "Song of Soaring" from a nearby Owl Statue, which allows Link to fast travel to any Owl Statue in Termina. In Ocarina of Time 3D, Kaepora Gaebora meets Link at the entrance to the Southern Swamp and teaches him the "Song of Soaring" there.[7]
