The Pirate's Charms are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Location and Uses

The Wind Waker

The Pirate's Charm is secretly given to Link by Tetra before he is catapulted into the Forsaken Fortress near the onset of his adventure, a fact which the young hero does not realize until he is inside the Fortress and discovers the Charm in his pocket.[3]

It allows Tetra and the King of Red Lions to communicate with Link and to see what he is doing.[4] It gives off a sparkling blue glow capable of altering the lighting of the immediate area when Link examines it. When someone is trying to reach Link, it alerts him by chiming.[5] Pressing the A button then checks the Pirate's Charm, allowing the communication.[6]

When Link and Tetra enter the sunken kingdom of Hyrule together, an unknown person speaks through the Pirate's Charm, summoning them to the Master Sword chamber.[7] Tetra is angered and demands to know who, other than herself, is capable of using the Charm.[8] This person is revealed to be Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, who had been in disguise as the King of Red Lions. According to King Hyrule, the Pirate's Charm is an enhanced version of the then-ancient Gossip Stones that he himself crafted.[9] It was subsequently passed down through the Royal Family of Hyrule until it was inherited by Tetra, who is actually Princess Zelda.

Other Appearances

Hyrule Warriors

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

In Hyrule Warriors, Aryll uses the Pirate's Charm to speak on behalf of Toon Link. Pirate's Charms are also Silver Materials which are dropped by Toon Link in Hyrule Warriors Legends and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. They are required to create certain silver and gold Badges in the Badge Market for certain Warriors such as Medli and King Daphnes, and can also be used to make certain Mixtures in the Apothecary.[which?]
