The Journal of Various Worries is a recurring Object in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

The Journal of Various Worries is a Book detailing the troubled thoughts of a number of villagers in Kakariko Village. As Impa is the chief of the Village, the Book is located on a counter in her home. Link can read the Book to get a glimpse at future Side Quests that will become available.

The first entry is by Cado, who signs it as "The Bow Master". It details how he decided to choose his precious Cuccos over his wife, Rola.[3]

Next is an entry by Dorian, who is concerned over the appearance of Pikango and his search for Cotera's Great Fairy Fountain.[4] Although he attempts to remain anonymous, he signs the entry as an "Anonymous Father of Two". As Dorian is the only man in Kakariko Village with two children, the signature exposes him.

After this, there is an entry written by Rola. She signs her worry as a "Lonely Arrow Girl" and notes how Link appears to be a fine archer, hoping he comes by her shop.[5]

Following Rola's entry is Lasli's, signed as "Struggling Shop Girl". She expresses her dissatisfaction with her life after the murder of her boyfriend, despite her job keeping her occupied.[6] Lasli writes that Fireflies are the only thing to truly make her happy, but she has been banned from walking at night and finds herself despairing without them.[7]

The final entry in the Journal belongs to Paya, who signs the entry using the fruit that gave her her name, "Papaya".[8] She brings up the Sheikah Heirloom handed down in her family, writing that she has been hearing voices concerning its purpose.[9] Although she is fearful, Paya feels that this destiny is swiftly approaching.[10]

Well, my wife left me today. The last thing she said to me was: "What's more important, the Cuccos or me?!"

I chose the Cuccos.
- The Bow Master

Journal of Various Worries

A painter unfamiliar to any of us has arrived in the village.

He claims he is searching for the Great Fairy's Fountain, but that's near where the village's spirit protector resides.

We must make sure the outsider doesn't learn of the location of the fountain...or the two shrines near it.

That new guy in town looks like he really knows how to tune a bow.

I hope he comes by and nocks an arrow for me. It's been WAAAY too long.
-Lonely Arrow Girl

Journal of Various Worries

Day in, day out, I'm outside barking people into the shop.

I don't mind, really. It's good money, and busying myself helps to numb the pain.

But the only thing that really helps me feel better is walking among the fireflies.

Unfortunately, we've now been asked to not walk around at night because it's dangerous.

I don't know how I can cope without the fireflies...
-Struggling Shop Girl

Journal of Various Worries

There is a precious heirloom that has been passed down through my family for generations.

Recently, I've begun to hear voices telling me that the heirloom has an important destiny.

It's going to happen soon. It makes me nervous, but I can feel it in my bones.

Tears of the Kingdom

The Journal of Various Worries remains in Impa's House. New entries have been added to the Journal since the start of the Upheaval. Notably, most of the entries forgo the use of pseudonyms, with the writer instead using their name.

The first entry is written by Ollie, under the name of "For Bedder or Worse". He writes that he has found it comfortable to sleep on the Ring Ruins Stone Slabs, so much so that regular Beds no longer compare.[11] The second entry is by Lasli, who asks for anyone with experience treating Gloom sickness to come to her.[12] In the third entry, Drenja asks for help among the villagers with driving out Monsters from the Southern Ring Ruin.[13] In the fourth, Trissa wonders if anyone knows where the resident Cuccos have been laying their Bird Eggs.[14] Lastly, in the fifth entry, Cottla uses the pseudonym "Not Cottla" to write about her Secret Base.[15]

I don't think I'll ever find a bed that's as comfortable as the stone slab in the Ring Ruins. It's so cool and comfortable.

I may never be able to sleep on a regular bed—no matter how soft—ever again.

What should I do? Guess I'll sleep on it and figure it out later.

Journal of Various Worries
Does anyone know how to treat gloom sickness? Anything helps, so if you have information, bring it to Lasli right away!
Journal of Various Worries

Monsters appeared at the Ring Ruin out among the hills that lead west of here, disrupting my research.

Is anyone out there capable of dealing with something like this?

I'm not from the village, so I hope it's OK for me to ask.

Journal of Various Worries

The Cuccos used to lay their eggs in front of the store, but they've been wandering off somewhere in the mornings.

So where are those dang Cuccos laying their eggs?

We rely on those eggs for our business.

The secret base is a secret just between me and mommy!

So no one is allowed to follow me ever! That's what makes it secret!

Trivia

  • The Journal of Various Worries and Paya's Diary have the exact same Hylian words written on their texture mapping as the general notebooks or Rumor Mill notebooks found throughout Breath of the Wild. However, the Journal of Various Worries and Paya's Diary are written in a Japanese fashion, where the words are written in a top-to-bottom fashion with pages read right-to-left.
    • The Hylian text on all these Books reads the same thing: "April First. Today was a shy hot and sunny day. I went to school. This diary is a very important document. April Second. Yesterday was Fool's day. Everything that I wrote was false. That is all. See you tomorrow"[16][17]
