Goo Specters are Enemies in Link's Awakening DX.[1]
Characteristics
Goo Specters appear exclusively in the Color Dungeon. Their appearance and behavior are based on the Boo Blah enemies from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.[citation needed] They are initially small and close to the ground, but when Link comes near, they quickly follow after him and attack by rising up and stretching their arms out. Goo Specters come in three colors: Red, Green, and Blue. Red and Green Camo Goblins are the most common, while Blue Goo Specters move faster and are able to pop up quicker. When they are to the ground, they are able to camouflage themselves against the colored tiles of the dungeon floor. While they will try to sneak up to Link and attack, this also leaves them exposed, and a single Sword strike is enough to defeat them.
Nomenclature
The Japanese name for Goo Specters, ビヨーンおばけ (Biyōn Obake), is the same as that of Boo Blahs in the Mario series, although the Japanese name for Boo Blahs is written fully in Hiragana in the Mario series: びよーんおばけ (Biyōn Obake). Biyōn is onomatopoeia representing the sound of stretching.
