Great Fairy Mija,(TotK)[9] also known as Mija,(BotW | HWAoC)[10][11] is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.

Biography

Breath of the Wild

Mija is a Great Fairy who resides in her Great Fairy Fountain in the Akkala Region. Like the other Great Fairies, Mija will upgrade Link's Armor in exchange for Materials.[12]

When Link comes across Mija's Great Fairy Fountain, it will be closed. If Link approaches the Fountain, he will hear the voice of Mija asking him to listen to her story.[13] Should Link agree, Mija introduces herself, explaining that her Fountain was once a spring.[1] However, when travelers stopped offering Rupees to her, she lost her power.[14] To restore her power, Mija requires Rupees.[15] Depending on how many out Great Fairies Link has made offerings to, Mija will ask for either 100 Rupees,[16] 500 Rupees,[17] 1,000 Rupees,[18] or 10,000 Rupees.[19]

Mija promises to help Link once he makes an offering to her.[20] Mija's hand will then emerge from her closed Fountain, and she requests that Link hand over his Rupees.[21] If Link refuses, Mija will be disappointed.[22] If Link agrees to give her Rupees, Mija will snatch them from Link and thank him.[23] Mija then proclaims that her power is overflowing, and her Great Fairy Fountain will bloom.[24]

With her power restored, Mija will emerge from the Water of her Great Fairy Fountain.[25] She is surprised by Link's appearance, having expected him to be bigger than he is.[26] Since Link helped restore her power, Mija decides to offer him a reward.[27] She informs Link that she is capable of enhancing his Armor if he provides the correct Materials.[12] The degree to which Mija can enhance Armor depends on how many Great Fairies have had their power restored.[28][29][30][31]

If Link agrees to enhance his Armor, Mija will ask him to choose a piece to enhance.[32] Once Link makes a selection, Mija will ask him to wait for a moment.[33] To enhance the Armor, she will either blow a kiss, kiss Link, hug him, or drag him into her Great Fairy Fountain. Following this, she will occasionally explain Set Bonuses to Link.[34] She then asks Link if he has other pieces of Armor he would like to enhance.[35] Should Link run out of Materials or reach the limits of Mija's power, she will invite him to come back once he has rectified this.[36] If Link approaches Mija without the supplies to enhance his Armor, she will notice.[37] However, she will allow Link to view his Armor enhancements to see what Materials he needs.[38]

If not all of the Great Fairy Fountains have been opened, Mija notices when Link ends their conversation that her not all of her sisters' powers have been restored.[7] She tells him that if they all regain their powers, they will be able to enhance his clothing more than she can currently.[7] Following these encounters, Mija will instead invite Link to return when he has more pieces of Armor he wants to upgrade.[39] When Link finishes enhancing his Armor, Mija will dive back into her Great Fairy Fountain.[40][41][42]
