Fan
Fans are recurring Items and Objects in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2] Fans go unnamed in Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild.
Location and Uses
Ocarina of Time
Fans appear inside the Shadow Temple and Inside Ganon's Castle. They operate on timed intervals and when active, they generate strong gusts of wind that can push Link in whichever direction they are facing. Link can resist Fans by wearing the Iron Boots, or he can gain additional distance from them by wearing the Hover Boots.
A Link Between Worlds
Several rooms in the House of Gales contain large Fans built into the floor, which allow Link to be blown to a higher level of the Dungeon. Several rooms of the Dungeon contain wall-mounted Fans that can either hinder Link by blowing him off of his path, or help him by allowing him to cross gaps or reach other areas. In some instances, Link must use the Tornado Rod to enter the path of the Wind emanating from a Fan.
Two of the Treasure Hunter Caves feature Fans as well. In the cave near the Haunted Grove, Link must descend into a deep pit by floating with a Cucco, while avoiding the blasts of Wind from several wall-mounted Fans. In the cave near Misery Mire, he must again use the Tornado Rod to traverse the cave's upper sections after activating the Fans by stepping on Floor Switches.
Tri Force Heroes
Fans appear in several Levels of the Sky Realm, where they create Updrafts that lift the Links into the air, allowing them to reach higher ledges or cross gaps. Some Fans are always active, while others must be turned on with a Switch or temporarily activated by firing the Gust Jar at them.
The Mini-Boss of the Sky Realm, Gigaleon, can be stunned by activating a Fan as it flies overhead. Gigaleon can then be attacked by throwing a Bomb into the Updraft, and later, by throwing one of the other Links to launch him up to the Mini-Boss to strike it directly.
Breath of the Wild
Tears of the Kingdom
Fans are Zonai Devices that originate from the Sky Islands. However, they can also be found on the ground below. When they are struck, Fans will activate and generate strong gusts of wind that can propel Link in whichever direction they are pointing. However, Fans require energy from Link's Energy Cell or a Battery, or it will stop operating if it runs out of power. Fans can be deactivated by striking them once more.
Fans can often be found near Logs to build Rafts or near Mine Carts to power them.. They can be bonded to Objects with the Ultrahand ability, creating a larger Object that will be propelled forward. On its own, an active Fan will not fly in a straight line. However, attaching two Fans together gives them a stable flight path. A single Fan generates enough thrust to propel Link plus a Steering Stick into the air, and a Battery is able to power a Fan for about 25 seconds.
