Biography

Breath of the Wild

Saki is a Rito woman who resides in Rito Village. She lives in Teba's Home with her husband Teba and son Tulin.[1][2]

Prior to Divine Beast Vah Medoh being appeased, Saki can be found staring out the window of Teba's Home. When Link approaches her, she will ask if he needs anything.[5] If Link asks what is wrong, Saki will become dismissive and end their conversation.[6] Should Saki be spoken to again, she claims it is not a good time.[7]

After starting the "Divine Beast Vah Medoh" Main Quest, Kaneli will direct Link to Saki, as she may know where Teba is.[8] When Link speaks to her, Saki admits that she overheard his conversation with Kaneli, and she claims to know Teba's location.[9] She reveals that he went to the Flight Range, explaining that it is a training ground for Rito warriors.[10] She believes that he intends to gather more Weapons there before facing Divine Beast Vah Medoh again.[11]

To get to the Flight Range, Saki tells Link to Paraglide from Revali's Landing.[12] She reveals that the Landing was named after the Champion Revali, so that the events of the Great Calamity would not be forgotten.[13] This initiates the "Revali's Flap" Recovered Memory. After the Memory concludes, Saki will become concerned for Link's well-being.[14] Fearing she has said too much, Saki apologizes and informs Link he can talk to her if he does not understand anything.[15]

During this time, Link can ask Saki about Teba, whom she describes as impulsive.[16] She claims that she tried to stop him from leaving to face Divine Beast Vah Medoh, but he did not listen to her.[17] However, Saki has resigned herself to this, attributing it to Teba's status as a Rito warrior.[18]

Additionally, Link is able to ask Saki about Revali. She relates that he is a legend to the Rito who is idolized by all of the warriors.[19] According to her, Teba wishes to make Tulin into a warrior as strong as Revali was.[2] Whenever they play, she reveals that it actually involves Teba training Tulin at the Flight Range.[20] However, she admits that she does not want Tulin to become a warrior.[21]

If Link returns to Saki after meeting Teba, she will be relieved and happy to hear he is still alive.[22] As thanks, Saki gives him a bundle of 10 Bomb Arrows.[23] She states that Teba left them with her in case she needed them, but she does not want them in an area where Tulin might play with them.[24]

After Divine Beast Vah Medoh has been calmed, Teba will join Tulin and Saki in their home. Teba credits Saki for helping him recover enough from his injuries to stand.[25] Saki also told Teba that Link is a descendant of the Hylian Champion, which Teba believes.[26] Similarly, Teba told Saki about his and Link's fight against the Divine Beast, including the fact that everything is back to normal now.[27] She is grateful so have Teba home safely, and she does not know how to express her gratitude.[28]

After Teba and Tulin leave for the Flight Range, Saki will begin a daily routine, wherein she repeatedly walks between Teba's Home and The Slippery Falcon. When Link speaks to her, she states that Teba and Tulin are at the Flight Range.[29] She would prefer if they stopped such dangerous training now that the Divine Beast has been appeased, but Teba still believes it to be necessary.[30] Though Teba wants to make Tulin into a warrior, Saki still considers their son to be a fledgeling.[31] Saki also thinks that Tulin is sweet, and she is scared of him losing his innocence.[32]

Nomenclature

Saki's name comes from a pun with her husband Teba: together they make 手羽先 (tebasaki), a Japanese dish made of fried chicken wing tips. 手羽  (teba) means "chicken wing" and 先 (saki) means "tip". Saki is also a Japanese name, with one Kanji combination being 咲 (sa), meaning "blossom," and 希 (ki), meaning "hope."[33]
