Linebeck III is a character in Spirit Tracks.[2]

Biography

Linebeck III in the Trading Post

Linebeck III is the grandson of Linebeck from Phantom Hourglass, and the owner of the Linebeck Trading Company, which operates at a location called the Trading Post. When Link and Princess Zelda are heading toward the Ocean Realm to restore the third part of the Tower of Spirits, they find the bridge to the Realm is broken.[3] Making a quick stop at the nearby Trading Post to ask around, they meet Linebeck III, who introduces himself as an expert treasure hunter in the same arrogant manner as his grandfather.[4] Linebeck III informs the young engineer that he knows a Bridge Worker living in the Snow Realm who should be able to repair the bridge, though Link would have to provide transportation.[5]

After Link successfully brings Kenzo to the Trading Post, the Bridge Worker surveys the damage and agrees to fix the bridge for a steep fee of 5,000 Rupees; a price that includes previous debts that Linebeck III apparently owes.[6] Linebeck, shocked at the price, enlists the help of Link to gather up the money.[7] He gives the young hero a Letter from his grandfather, written before his death, that leads to the location of his last piece of buried Treasure: a Regal Ring.[8]

Once Link locates the Ring and returns it to Linebeck III, Kenzo takes it for himself as payment, despite the Treasure being worth 3,000 Rupees more than Linebeck's debt.[9] Though dismayed at the loss, Linebeck III recognizes Link's talent for finding Treasure, and from then on will buy any that Link brings him, or trade them for new Train Cars for the Spirit Train.[10] Linebeck will also sell the young hero a new Shield for 100 Rupees, should he lose his to a Like Like.[11] Some time after Link completes the Sand Temple, Linebeck expresses an interest in Dark Ore, and will reward him with Force Gem 19 (which creates access to the Lost at Sea Station) for transporting five or more units from the Dark Ore Mine back to the Trading Post.[12] Subsequent deliveries of Dark Ore will net Link a random piece of Treasure valued at 500 Rupees or more.

Nomenclature
