Frost Taluses are Stone Taluses composed of enchanted Ice.[5] They can be found in cold, snowy areas throughout the Hebra and Gerudo Regions, particularly the Hebra Mountains and Gerudo Highlands. These Taluses disguise themself as Icy rock formations.[6] They are coated in Ice and will freeze Link upon contact, making it impossible for Link to climb them normally.[6]
Link can climb a Frost Talus when the Unfreezable Set Bonus is active, which can be achieved by wearing the upgraded Snowquill Set or Zant's Helmet. Alternatively, he can melt its Ice using a Fire-based attack, such as Fire Arrows.[6] The rock chunks that they launch at Link will always be coated in Ice. Link can defeat a Frost Talus the same way as every other variant of Talus, which is by inflicting damage to their Ore Deposits through melee attacks, firing Arrows, or using Urbosa's Fury.
As part of the "Face the Frost Talus" Side Quest, Gesane reveals that he saw a Frost Talus at Coldsnap Hollow in the Hebra Mountains, and he believes a Champion would be able to defeat it.[7][5] To complete the Quest, Link must defeat this Frost Talus.[8] Once it has been killed, Gesane will give Link a Silver Rupee as a reward.[9]
After defeating Calamity Ganon for the first time, Link is able to ask Kilton about Taluses.[10] Since he is unable to approach them due to their size, Kilton asks Link to kill all of the Taluses in Hyrule Kingdom so he can examine the scent they leave behind.[11] This task includes all Frost Taluses as well. When Link has accomplished this task, Kilton will give him the Medal of Honor: Talus as a reward.[12] From this research, Kilton is able to learn about Taluses' musculoskeletal structure and diet.[13]

[Frost Talus?] Yes! It's a giant monster made of enchanted ice! I was out running an errand when I saw it... It was incredible...and terrifying. It was incredibly terrifying. I believe I saw it over in Coldsnap Hollow before my adrenaline kicked in and I fled like the wind. In any case, it was enormous. But I bet a Champion could have taken it down no problem.

This enormous monster is naturally camouflaged as a frozen rock formation. Neither sword nor arrow can pierce its frigid form. Merely touching its frosty body can leave you with severe frostbite, but you may be able to scale it if you use something to thaw its icy exterior.

Never mind that. Please listen to this! I was out for a walk earlier, and I saw... a Frost Talus!

Gesane, a Rito Village guardsman, said he saw a frost Talus over at Coldsnap Hollow.

If you encounter a Frost Talus in you travels there, be sure to destroy it. - ↑
[I defeated it.] WHAT?! You defeated the Frost Talus in Coldsnap Hollow?! I never would have thought that a Hylian could take down something that big. No offense. Well, that's a relief. If that thind had wandered this way, the entire village would've been in danger! It's not much, but I'd like to reward you for your trouble.

[About monsters...] Dya DYAAAAAAAH! You want to know about monsters? I just LOOOOOVE talking about monsters! Ooh. OOOOOOOH! Let's talk about the huge ones! The stone colossus? The forest giant? The giant sand beast?! Which monster do you want to hear about?
— Kilton (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
I'm currently after them myself, but they're just so big! I can't even get near them... So could I ask you to find them and, uh, harvest their materials? I'm talking all of them. That way, I'll be able to analyze the scent of their fluids that will inevitably stick to your body during battle. That will allow me to determine their habits, behaviors, and overall qualities. I'm counting on you...
— Kilton (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
You—! You've defeated every last Stone Talus! Oh, you are FRAGRANT, my friend. It smells like there's a Stone Talus standing right in front of me! Tha-thank you so much! Oh, yes! Here, let me give you this.
— Kilton (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
Thanks to you, I now know their musculoskeletal structure...as well as their general diet.
