Josha is a character in Tears of the Kingdom.[6]
Biography
Josha is a young Sheikah girl who resides at Lookout Landing. She notably refers to people by nicknames, such as calling Robbie "Goggles" or Link "Swordsman."[7][8] Josha is a student of Purah's, and she is considered to be her favorite.[9] Since the Upheaval, she has lead the Chasm Research and investigations into the Depths done by the Zonai Survey Team. However, she has not been allowed to visit the Depths herself due to her age.[9] She has also contributed to the search for Zelda.[4]
Initially, Josha can be found looking into the window of the Research Lab on the Second Floor of Lookout Landing.[10] When Link approaches, she begins to run toward him.[11][12] If he walks out of her range, she will believe that she misidentified him.[13] When she speaks to Link, she recognizes him and calls out for Purah, yelling that he has returned.[14] Alongside Purah, Josha listens to Link's story about what happened Beneath Hyrule Castle, and she appears surprised afterwards. When Link speaks to her after starting "Crisis at Hyrule Castle", she sympathizes with Zelda, commenting on how scared she is thinking about being in her position.[15] She then demands that Link go rescue Zelda.[16]
Nomenclature
Josha's name is simply the given name "Joshua" in Japanese, though this was altered to "Josha" for most other languages. Her name is likely a pun on the Japanese word 助手 (Joshu), meaning "assistant" (particularly to a professor), due to her role assisting Purah in her research. This deviates from the pattern of nearly all other Sheikah having names derived from fruits.
