Diamond Steppe Island is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]
Features and Overview
The Wind Waker
Diamond Steppe Island
Mr. Fairy! Do you believe in ghosts? Like the spooky Ghost Ship that sails at night? Me, I believe in fairies, but I don't believe in ghosts. Because they're scary.
On this diamond-shaped island, Link must use the Hookshot to reach the top of the Island and enter a maze with many Warp Pots. The reward there is the Ghost Ship Chart, which marks the appearances of the Ghost Ship on certain moon phases. After obtaining the Ghost Ship Chart, a glowing ship symbol will appear at night on the Sea Chart. Coincidentally, the Island itself is one of the seven recurring destinations of the Ghost Ship.
There is also one eight-eyed Big Octo which Link can destroy for 100 Rupees. In addition, beneath the waves is a Treasure Chest with a Heart Container that can be located after opening a Treasure Chart from Windfall Island.

Diamond Steppe Island is the site of Adventure Battle in the Great Sea and Master Wind Waker Maps in Adventure Mode. It is one tile northeast from the bottom-left corner in both maps. In its Great Sea Map version, it takes place in the Palace of Twilight Stage and is the source of Ganondorf's level 2 Great Swords, the Swords of Darkness. In its Master Wind Waker version, it takes place in Hyrule Field and is home to a King Dodongo.[2] It also contains a Heart Container for Ghirahim.
Trivia
- The layout of the Island's underground maze in The Wind Waker is similar to the grotto found on Needle Rock Isle.
- In The Wind Waker, at a certain angle, the island looks somewhat like a ship itself.
Nomenclature
The Island's English name is likely a mistranslation of its Japanese name, confusing the homophones "steppe" and "step". The Japanese name for the island completely lacks the word for "steppe," 草原 (sōgen), instead using the word 段 (dan), which means "step" (as of stairs), which far better describes the island's geography.
