Great Thunderblades are Electric, two-handed swords that Link can wield. They were forged by the Royal Family of Hyrule using Lightning from Hyrule Ridge.[1] As a result of their elemental properties, they belong to the Magic Gear equipment archetype.[2] Primarily, they are found in Hyrule Field and on the Tabantha Frontier. A Great Thunderblade can be found sticking out of the earth between the jutted rocks of Cuho Mountain's summit, and another can be found being wielded by a Black Moblin in the Coliseum Ruins. Great Thunderblades also have a possibility of spawning on Stalnoxes, which have to be defeated before Link can obtain them.

Being an Electric Weapon, Great Thunderblades can be used to shock Enemies and force them to drop any Weapons that they are using, making them easier to dispatch. Each swing of a Great Thunderblade will temporarily drain the Electric power from it. When a Great Thunderblade is completely drained, the blade will have to regenerate its energy before it can cause Electric damage again. Using this sword while it is in this state will also not generate Electricity and will pause the regeneration for a second. Dropping a Great Thunderblade through the Inventory screen and picking it back up will instantly recharge it.

In addition to shocking Enemies, Great Thunderblades can be used to temporarily fire Electric pulses into certain machines. Since they are made of metal, they will also attract Lightning if they are equipped during Thunderstorms and conduct Electricity. They will sink if dropped in Water, but they can be picked up using the Magnesis Rune. Finally, Great Thunderblades will not burn if they are exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate.
