"Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan" is a Side Adventure in Tears of the Kingdom.[1]

Overview

After Link defeats Master Kohga at the Great Abandoned Central Mine during the "A Mystery in the Depths" Main Quest, he complains that he cannot beat him.[2] He proclaims that he will let Link off easy, gloating that he has already found other Abandoned Mines in the Depths.[3] Since he saw Link use his Right Arm to activate the Steward Construct and receive Autobuild, Master Kohga plans on using the same method to receive the Ancient Power at another Mine, which he will use to destroy the world with someone he refers to as the "Magnificent One".[4] He then summons a Vehicle made from a Wing, a Steering Stick, and four Fans, which he flees on as he tells Link not to follow him.[5] A Treasure Chest containing a Huge Crystallized Charge appears, and at this point, the "Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan" Side Adventure will begin.

Once Link opens the Treasure Chest, the nearby Steward Construct approaches him.[6] It thanks Link for driving the Yiga Clan out of the Great Abandoned Central Mine, and it reveals that the Abandoned Mine that Master Kohga left for is likely the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.[7] To find the Mine, it suggests that it follows the Statues That Point the Way, which start near the Koradat Lightroot.[8] It also tells him to meet with the other Steward Construct at the Great Abandoned Central Mine, which has a Schema Stone to offer him.[9]

Link can next find Master Kohga struggling to activate a Steward Construct at the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.[10][11] He initially thinks Link is one of his subordinates and tells him to try,[12] but he soon realizes that it is Link.[13] Master Kohga accuses Link of tricking him, as he has been unable to replicate Link's ability to activate Steward Constructs.[14] He declares that he is going to fight Link and take Autobuild from him,[15] and to this end, he summons a flying vehicle to use during their battle.

After Link defeats Master Kohga for the second time, he blames his loss on the Sand getting in his eyes.[16] He decides to give up on his plan to obtain Autobuild, revealing that the Yiga Clan have been collecting Crystallized Charges to restore the Ultimate Weapon for the Magnificent One to destroy the world with.[17] He leaves for another Abandoned Mine, allowing Link to freely explore the Abandoned Gerudo Mine.[18] Another stone Treasure Chest containing a Huge Crystallized Charge appears.

A Steward Construct residing at the Abandoned Gerudo Mine approaches Link, thanking him for getting rid of the Yiga Clan.[19] It informs Link that Master Kohga is likely heading to the Abandoned Lanayru Mine.[20] Since none of the Statues That Point the Way in the area lead to the Mine, the Steward Construct suggests using any Chasms in or around Lanayru.[21] One Chasm, the Lanayru Wetlands Chasm, can be found in the Lanayru Wetlands, while the East Hill Chasm can be found near a village in the mountains to the south.[22]

At the Abandoned Lanayru Mine, Link can find Master Kohga once again failing to activate a Steward Construct.[23] When he turns around, he is shocked to see Link standing behind him, and he accuses Link of trying to catch him off guard.[24] Master Kohga explains that although the Yiga Clan's plan has changed, he was killing time by attempting to activate the Construct, since they have already mined everything in the area.[25] Annoyed that Link followed him again, Master Kohga claims he is too busy ending the world to fight him one-on-one.[26] Teleporting over the Water surrounding the Abandoned Mine, Master Kohga summons a Headlight Raft and two Yiga Footsoldiers. He then commands them to attack Link on his behalf.[27]

The third time Master Kohga is defeated, he blames his Steering Stick for getting wet.[28] He taunts Link, claiming that he already found all of the Crystallized Charges at the Abandoned Lanayru Mine before he arrived.[29] He also reveals that the Yiga Clan has discovered the location of the Magnificent One, Demon King Ganondorf, and they are now close to destroying the world.[30] Now that the Yiga Clan have enough Crystallized Charges, Master Kohga plans on raiding the final Abandoned Mine, at which point they will activate the Ultimate Weapon, offer it to the Demon King, and end the world.[31] He tells Link that their next encounter will be the last.[32] Master Kohga flies away on his Vehicle yet again, promising that Link will get what he deserves.[33] Another stone Treasure Chest containing a Huge Crystallized Charge then appears.

The Abandoned Lanayru Mine's Steward Construct approaches Link, thanking him for getting rid of the intruders.[34] It claims that it listened to his conversation with Master Kohga, and it believes that he is going to the Abandoned Hebra Mine.[35] It reveals that there was a path from the Hyrule Ridge Depths that lead to the Mine, but it is no longer viable.[36] However, it is able to remember there being a Chasm that leads directly to the Abandoned Hebra Mine.[37]

In Rito Village, Link can find Ponnick standing along the southern edge. He greets Link, recalling that they have not seen each other since meeting at the Hyrule Field Chasm.[38][39] Ponnick reveals that Josha tasked him with searching for a Chasm near Rito Village, which he was successful in doing.[40] He points out the Rito Village Chasm to Link, which is located in a small cavern directly below them.[41] Following a rest, he plans to report it to Josha, and he warns Link to be careful if he explores the Chasm.[42]

At the Abandoned Hebra Mine, Link can find Master Kohga sitting in front of a Relay Base. He claims he was waiting for Link, and he informs him that the Yiga Clan have gathered enough Crystallized Charges to completely restore their Ultimate Weapon.[43] He claims that today is the day they resurrect the Ultimate Weapon and destroy the world.[44] Master Kohga then summons the Ultimate Weapon,[45] which is revealed to be a modified Crafter Construct.[46] Master Kohga plans on defeating Link, at which point he will join Demon King Ganondorf Beneath Hyrule Castle.[47] An electric fence then rises from the ground, surrounding the arena. Master Kohga taunts Link, after which the fight begins.[48]

Once Master Kohga has been defeated for the final time, he is disappointed that the Ultimate Weapon has been destroyed.[49] He expresses his anger to Link, threatening to to seek revenge.[50] Laughing, Master Kohga reveals a new technique he came up with in the Depths.[51] He then summons the Kohga Rocket, and as he threatens Link, it begins to tilt toward Master Kohga.[52] When he attempts to launch the Kohga Rocket, he accidentally shoots it at himself, causing him to be stuck at its end while it flails around the Abandoned Hebra Mine.[53] He swears revenge on Link,[54] before he is rocketed out of the Rito Village Chasm. Two stone Treasure Chests containing a Huge Crystallized Charge and a Diamond appear, after which "Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan" will be completed.

Objectives

Stage Description
1 You ran into Master Kohga, head of the Yiga Clan, in the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths. He's dead set on getting his hands on the power of the Zonai and bringing about the end of the world with the Magnificent One. Could this have something to do with Zelda's disappearance? Master Kohga's next stop is the Southwestern Abandoned Mine...
2 You faced Master Kohga, head of the Yiga Clan, in the Great Abandoned Central Mine. He plans to use the power of the Zonai to end the world with the Magnificent One. Could they be involved with Zelda's disappearance? Kohga went to the Abandoned Gerudo Mine. You can go there by following a nearby series of statues through the Depths.
3 You successfully drove Master Kohga from the Abandoned Gerudo Mine, and learned his true aim. He plans to restore a powerful weapon for "the man himself." Pursue Kohga to the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. A line of statues stretching from one of the chasms either in the Lanayru Wetlands or amidst the mountains south of there will guide you to the mine.
4 You encountered Master Kohga a third time and chased him from the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. As he fled, he told you that he knows where the Demon King is and plans to activate an "ultimate weapon." The Demon King may have a clue to Zelda's whereabouts, so go catch Kohga at the Abandoned Hebra Mine. There may be a chasm that leads you straight to it...
Complete Your final showdown with Master Kohga at the Abandoned Hebra Mine resulted in the revival of the ultimate weapon—a giant construct. You managed to defeat it, and Master Kohga was last seen blasted skyward by his own hand, his plot foiled. Though Zelda's whereabouts remain unknown, you learned that the Demon King lurks beneath Hyrule Castle...
