Yiga Footsoldiers are members of the Yiga Clan who follow their leader, Master Kohga.[4] They are always hunting Link down, attempting to assassinate him and stop his quest to defeat Calamity Ganon. Yiga Footsoldiers can be found in various places throughout Hyrule Kingdom, usually appearing disguised as travellers, revealing themselves as Yiga Footsoldiers after Link speaks to them.
After defeating Kohga, Yiga Footsoldiers might also appear out of thin air to ambush Link.[5] They will sometimes attempt to entice Link by selling Mighty Bananas,[6] only to attack him regardless. Yiga Footsoldiers will often teleport around the area, levitating and shooting Link with a Duplex Bow. If wielding either a Vicious Sickle or a Demon Carver, they will teleport above Link and Down Thrust into the ground with their weapon, telegraphing the attack with a glowing red ring of nine Hylian letters. These letters parallel the nine Sheikah letters preceding some of Monk Maz Koshia's attacks.
While infiltrating the Yiga Clan Hideout, Yiga Blademasters will summon two Yiga Footsoldiers if Link is spotted. When defeated, Yiga Footsoldiers will teleport away, dropping their weapon and leaving behind a random amount of Mighty Bananas and Rupees.

Tears of the Kingdom
In addition to their standard tactics, Yiga Footsoldiers may drive vehicles assembled from Zonai Devices. While these vehicles can be dangerous, they can be neutralized by knocking them over and their pilots cannot defend themselves if attacked directly. They also have improved disguises, allowing them to disguise themselves as inanimate things such as Trees and Mighty Bananas or even Princess Zelda. Unlike in Breath of the Wild, they are equipped with Eightfold Blades that have visible Gloom markings.
They will not be hostile to Link if he wears the Yiga Set, as they will mistake him for a Yiga Clan member.
Other Appearances
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Though Yiga Footsoldier's do not appear directly in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, items resembling the attire worn by Yiga Footsoldiers known as the Yiga Clan Mask and the Yiga Clan Outfit appear as a Mii Headgear for all Mii Fighters and a Mii Outfit for Mii Swordfighters respectively. Mii Swordfighters disguised as Yiga Footsoldiers appear in Sheik's and Zelda's Classic Mode Routes, "Masquerade" and "Wisdom Prevails", with the latter appearance referencing the Yiga Footsoldiers' goal of assassinating Zelda in Breath of the Wild.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Yiga Footsoldiers retroactively debut in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, now having voice acting and are fought both in Gerudo Town and the Gerudo Desert, and several other scenarios. They appear as the weakest soldiers of the Yiga Clan. Two Yiga Footsoldiers are also seen kneeling before Astor in the Lost Woods. On top of that, there is a new variant that stands at about twice the size of a regular Yiga Footsoldier, called Yiga Captains. Each can switch between their Vicious Sickle and Duplex Bow at will and can sustain much more damage; they act as Keep Bosses. Later in the game, they are sacrificed to revive the Blight Ganons after they failed to kill the Champions, causing the Yiga Clan to join their former enemies to take down Astor and later, Ganon. They disguise themselves as Hylian Soldiers during "The Yiga Clan Attacks!" and even slip into their old Sheikah professions to infiltrate the Royal Ancient Lab in an attempt to stop Robbie and Purah from learning the full results of analyzing Terrako.[7]
Trivia
- It is possible that the Yiga Footsoldiers were inspired by the Ache from The Adventure of Link, since they both disguise themselves as travelers or townspeople before attacking when approached by Link.
- Unlike most Enemies in Breath of the Wild, Yiga Footsoldiers do not die when they are defeated.
- When they teleport, Yiga Footsoldiers are surrounded by nine Hylian letters that represent the Kuji-in. Clockwise from the top, they are:
