Ganon (pronounced /ˈɡænən/ GAN-ən)[7][8] is a recurring boss in The Legend of Zelda series.[9]

Biography

The Legend of Zelda

Many years after Yuga Ganon's destruction in A Link Between Worlds, Ganon was resurrected from unknown circumstances. With the state of Hyrule in decline, Ganon amassed a demon army and invaded Lesser Hyrule in search of the Triforce. There, he managed to steal the Triforce of Power and plotted to seize the Triforce of Wisdom.[1] To prevent Ganon from obtaining her Triforce, Princess Zelda shattered it into eight Shards and hid them within the eight Dungeons scattered across Lesser Hyrule and ordered Impa to seek a hero who possessed enough courage to face Ganon.[10] Upon learning of this, Ganon then captured Princess Zelda and sent his minions after Impa.[11] However, Ganon's efforts to stop Impa were in vain, as Link saved her. Impa shared her plight with Link, and instructed him to reclaim the pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom from the Dungeons.[12]

After Link successfully collects the eight pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom, Ganon faces him in Level-9 atop Death Mountain. With the combined power of the Triforce of Wisdom and the Silver Arrows, Link destroys Ganon once more and reduces him to ash.

Characteristics

The Adventure of Link

Though Ganon was destroyed in The Legend of Zelda, his minions learned of a means to resurrect their master by sprinkling Link's blood over Ganon's ashes.[13] To fulfill this plot, Ganon's underlings launched an assault on Hyrule in search of the hero who slew their master.[14] At this time, the symbol of the Triforce suddenly appeared on Link's hand.[15] Recognizing this symbol, Impa gives Link a scroll written by the late King of Hyrule.[16] Upon the scroll was the location of the Triforce of Courage, indicating its presence within the Great Palace.[17] Link overcomes the seven Palaces protecting the Triforce of Courage and uses its power to awaken Princess Zelda I from her eternal slumber. With the Princess revived and the Triforce now unified, Link thwarted Ganon's minions and returned peace to Hyrule.[18]

Ganon only appears in The Adventure of Link if Link falls in battle, resulting in Ganon's return. [19]
