Gut Check Rock is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Features and Overview

Breath of the Wild

Gut Check Rock is a colossal pinnacle in northeastern Eldin Canyon, in close proximity to Eldin's Flank. The pinnacle stands in the middle of a Hot Spring river moat. Its body is sectioned into two halves, consisting of a much broader base and another pinnacle on top. Otherwise, its entirely smooth, making Climbing the Rock difficult and strenuous. A number of wooden platforms are built along its side as rest stops between Climbing. Gut Check Rock has two Updrafts along its sides, which can be ridden using the Paraglider. At the very top of the pinnacle is Gorae Torr Shrine, alongside a Cooking Pot. A metal archway serves as the entrance to Gut Check Rock, and a nearby Sign asks travelers if they have what it takes.[4]

The Goron Blood Brothers have taken up residence at Gut Check Rock in order to train.[5][6] When Link first approaches Gorae Torr Shrine, Bayge will be sitting on its Travel Gate, which he claims only Goron Blood Brothers are allowed to access.[7] The other two Goron Blood Brothers, Heehl and Kabetta, can be found at the base of Gut Check Rock. Heehl is standing next one of the Updrafts, while Kabetta is laying down in exhaustion from failing his training.[8][9] However, Bayge agrees to move if Link can clear the Gut Check Rock Challenge, Mini-Game, in which Link must climb Gut Check Rock while collecting 100 Rupees.[10] This initiates "The Gut Check Challenge" Shrine Quest.

After Link has successfully completed the Gut Check Rock Challenge, Bayge will declare him the fourth Goron Blood Brother and allow him to enter Gorae Torr Shrine.[11][12] Following this, Link can retry the Gut Check Rock Challenge at any time, though Bayge also begins to offer the Super Gut Check Challenge.[13]

One Korok Seed Puzzle is located at Gut Check Rock. A Rock Pattern can be found spread out among the five pillars on top of the Rock. When Link moves the northernmost Rock to match with the other four, a Korok will appear and give him a Korok Seed as a reward.[14]

As part of the "Gut-Check Challenge" Quest, Daruk must complete the Gut Check Challenge, requiring Materials to help him climb up Gut Check Rock in a limited amount of time.[3] After receiving the Materials, Daruk is able to complete his climb, which inspires spectators to attempt the same.[15]
