Items

In the game's data, there is an unused file for a unique Saddle. This Saddle does not have a name.

There is an unused Hyrule Compendium icon and Picture for King's Scales named Item_KingScale in the game's code.

There is an additional, unused Hyrule Compendium icon and Picture for the Thick Stick named Weapon_Lsword_168 in the game's code.

Multiple unused messages can also be found in Tears of the Kingdom. For example, the message for speaking to a Goddess Statue with maximum Hearts and Stamina returns from Breath of the Wild, despite it also be impossible in Tears of the Kingdom too:

"You already overflow with life force and stamina. Increasing your power any further may destroy you." — Goddess Statue (Tears of the Kingdom)

As does the message for speaking to the Horned Statue without any upgrades, despite this being impossible in Tears of the Kingdom:

"What's this? You haven't received even one more Heart Container or Stamina Vessel? Such a pity... I was eager to help you with a minor transaction. But not if you have nothing to trade. Consult a Goddess Statue to improve yourself, and then return here to pray." — Horned Statue (Tears of the Kingdom)

There is also a description for collecting a Schema Stone without Autobuild, despite this being impossible in-game:

Locations

While the final game's Dungeons are on the same map as the main overworld, Tears of the Kingdom also has files for earlier versions of these Dungeons that take place on separate maps, which can be found in the files named:

  • LargeDungeonWind
  • LargeDungeonFire
  • LargeDungeonWater
  • LargeDungeonThunder
  • LargeDungeonHyruleCastle
  • LargeDungeonSoul

These maps have a plethora of differences from the final ones.[2]

General Differences

  • Certain Treasure Chests have no Items defined for them. These give Link an Opal when opened.
  • Enemies have basic Weapons rather than area-specific ones. These include Wooden Sticks in the Fire Temple, and rusty broadswords in the Water Temple.
  • Ascend does not work at all.
  • There are no maps, just an overlay on top of Central Hyrule. The actual floors are marked though, and the X Button can be used to switch to the normal Hyrule map as per the final game.
  • Sages do not appear in these maps when the relevant quest is active, meaning the terminals cannot be activated.

Wind Temple

  • The vortex surrounding the Dungeon is not present, nor are the ships that circle it.
  • The area only has a level 1 Freezing Climate, meaning that only one level of cold resistance is needed to survive.

Fire Temple

  • The Scorching Climate found in the final Dungeon is not present.
  • The Dungeon has a roof that can be landed on, since the Depths ceiling is not present. This has texture errors.
  • As per above, enemies use wooden Weapons, Shields, and Bows rather than Zonaite ones.
  • Lower levels are extremely dark due to the limited lighting setup, making the floor almost invisible in places.

Water Temple

  • Most Treasure Chests lack defined contents, and hence contain Opals.
  • The Sludge is invisible if the area is revisited after clearing the Zora story quest.

Lightning Temple

  • The Ore Deposits around the sides and on the roof of the Dungeon are missing
  • If visited before activating the location normally, the Gibdo hives and pink glowing orb on the front of the Dungeon are missing
  • A bridge can be seen out front that is usually near invisible due to the sand in the final version
  • The whole Temple is fully lit up, with no dark rooms

Hyrule Castle

Spirit Temple

  • This version of the area is actually a Dungeon of sorts, not a boss arena for the Seized Construct.
  • The first area has a floating platform above a large flat area with Mineru's Construct and a teleport pad
  • This leads to a lower level with a single Soldier Construct, a spiked ball and an iron pole
  • Which in turns leads down to a large open platform with numerous Soldier Constructs, one Captain Construct and various objects that can be fused to Mineru's Construct
  • Past the edge here is another platform with multiple emitters and an ice block
  • Followed by a single platform with an Ice Chuchu and an Ice-Breath Lizalfos
  • The map doesn't exist here
  • And the save location for the area is set to Hyrule Field, not the Spirit Temple.
