Extra Hearts is a recurring Added Effect in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Overview

Extra Hearts is an Added Effect in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom that fully restores Link's health and provides him with extra yellow Hearts that absorb damage. These Hearts cannot be restored once used, but they can be replaced by reapplying the Effect.

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, the total amount of Hearts in Link's Life Gauge cannot exceed 30. The following Materials grant Extra Hearts when cooked in Meals or Elixirs:

Tears of the Kingdom

In Tears of the Kingdom, the total amount of Hearts in Link's Life Gauge cannot exceed 40. If Link receives Gloom damage from any source, any extra Hearts he has will all be consumed at once, after which his Heart Containers will be damaged as normal. The following Materials impart Extra Hearts in Tears of the Kingdom:
