Boulder Breakers are a type of Weapon used by Daruk, which he is able to use when he is available as a Warrior in Scenarios and Challenges. In both Narrations and Movies, Daruk is seen carrying his Boulder Breaker with him. For example, he wields it when the Yiga ambush the party in "Assassination!", when Monsters begin an attack in "A Song from the Past", and when he is fighting Fireblight Ganon in "Rescue Across Time: Water and Fire".

Boulder Breakers are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.(BotWBreath of the Wild | TotKTears of the Kingdom | AoIAge of Imprisonment | AoCAge of Calamity)[1][2][3][4]
Location and Uses
Breath of the Wild
Boulder Breakers are Weapons that are part of the Goron Gear equipment archetype.[5] They are the strongest variant of the Cobble Crusher. Just like the other Goron crushers, they are Two-Handed Weapons that can be used for both mining and combat. They also have a hidden property which causes their damage output to be doubled when used on the Ore Deposit atop a Stone Talus. They are capable of immediately destroying Stone Pebblits. Despite Bludo describing Boulder Breakers as sharp Weapons,[6] they do not act as such and cannot cut Grass or Trees.
Prior to the Great Calamity, a Boulder Breaker was wielded by the Goron Champion, Daruk[1] It was made for him by a blacksmith based out of Goron City.[7] Daruk supposedly made swinging this Weapon around look easy, while others who used it would need a large amount of strength.[1] According to Bludo, Daruk used his Boulder Breaker to carve the valley at Gortram Cliff in one night to make it easier for the Gorons to reach their Rock Roast.[8] In addition, there is a rumor that Daruk used to use it to fan himself.[9] During the EX Recovered Memory "Champion Daruk's Song", Daruk can be seen using his Boulder Breaker to fight off a group of Bokoblins harassing a Hylian Retriever.
After appeasing the Divine Beast Vah Rudania, Bludo will allow Link to take Daruk's Boulder Breaker from a Treasure Chest in his House as a reward.[6] If Link ever misplaces or breaks the Boulder Breaker, Rohan will be able to craft him a new one in exchange for a Cobble Crusher, five pieces of Flint, and a Diamond.[10][11] However, he will not make if the Boulder Breaker is still recoverable.[12]
Boulder Breakers are made of metal, and they will therefore conduct Electricity and attract Lightning if they are equipped during a Thunderstorm. However, they are unable to burn when exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate. They sink if dropped in Water, but they can be picked up and manipulated using the Magnesis Rune.

Tears of the Kingdom
Boulder Breakers reappear as Weapons in Tears of the Kingdom. They are one of the few Weapons that remain Intact on the Surface, while the rest have Decayed as a result of the Upheaval. The creation of Boulder Breakers is considered to be an honor among the Gorons, and only a select few are taught how to make them.[13] According to Fugo, there is only one Spirit that can be forged into a Boulder Breaker, and as a result, multiple Boulder Breakers cannot be made when one already exists.[14][15]
According to Zelda, Daruk's Boulder Breaker was originally twice as heavy compared to normal, and he had its weight increased further when he was appointed as a Champion.[16] In the present, Yunobo now wields a Boulder Breaker of his own. After Link frees him from the Weird Mask's influence during the Main Quest "Yunobo of Goron City", he will begin to use his Boulder Breaker to fight Enemies that the two of them encounter, such as Marbled Gohma. His Sage Avatar also carries a projection of a Boulder Breaker, which Link is still able to take a Picture of for his Hyrule Compendium. If Yunobo has been awoken as a Sage, he will appear during the War in the Depths of Hyrule to fight Monsters with his Boulder Breaker.
The Goron smith Rohan was prepared to teach his apprentice Fugo how to make a Boulder Breaker prior to the Upheaval, but he gave up after Fugo was mind-controlled to focus on Marbled Rock Roast.[13] A Boulder Breaker can be found leaning against Rohan's House, but if Link tries to pick it up, he will yell at him and state that it is incomplete.[17] During the Side Quest "Soul of the Gorons", Fugo attempts to convince Rohan to let him finish the Boulder Breaker, but Rohan is still angry with him for abandoning it in the first place.[18] Rohan eventually relents, but they are unable to afford the necessary supplies due to Fugo spending all of their Rupees. To finish the Boulder Breaker, Fugo requires a Cobble Crusher, five pieces of Flint, and three Diamonds.[19] The Cobble Crusher can be either Decayed or an Intact Cobble Crusher✨, but it cannot have any Objects or Materials Fused to it.[20]
Once Link provides Fugo with what he needs, he will proceed to complete the Boulder Breaker.[21] After it is finished, Rohan declares that the Boulder Breaker is one of the best he has ever seen.[22] To thank Link, Fugo gifts him the Boulder Breaker.[23] He also offers to make a new Boulder Breaker for him if this one ever breaks, so long as he provides the necessary supplies again.[24] However, he will refuse to make another if Link's Boulder Breaker is not broken, as its Spirit is not available to be forged again.[14][15]
In flashbacks to the Imprisoning War during the Era of Foundation, the Sage of Fire Agraston can be seen wielding a Boulder Breaker.

There's some treasure in my house. Grab it. Keep it. It's yours. It's a sharp blade that Daruk himself once wielded. I'm sure you'll be able to make good use of it!

This blacksmithing shop doesn't seem to have a name. I get the sense that the blacksmith himself is more concerned with his skills than he is about naming things. Truly, he is a master at his craft—his stature both grand and indomitable. Without so much as a momentary pause while striking the iron, he proudly told me that he was the very one who made Daruk's Boulder Breaker." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025) - ↑
You know the valley at Gortram Cliff, southwest of Gorko Tunnel? It was made by Daruk with his Boulder Breaker in one night! Why?! Why do ya think? To make it easier for us Gorons to get all that tasty rock roast!
— Bludo (Breath of the Wild) - ↑
There's even a rumor that Daruk... used it to fan himself sometimes.

If you ever lose the Boulder Breaker, just go talk to Rohan the blacksmith. He'll be happy to help ya out.

Eh, customer? Sorry, bub. I'm a smithy, not a shopkeeper. My focus is on the Boulder Breaker right now. The art of crafting such a beaut has been passed down through the ages. Only a chosen few can make it. It's a historical weapon, and making it is an absolute honor. Here I thought I'd be teachin' my apprentice, Fugo, to make it. But the fool's obsessed with that marbled rock roast stuff. It's all he cares about anymore. I told him to shove off right in the middle of work. I'm done with him!
— Rohan (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑ 14.0 14.1
Sir. You already have the Boulder Breaker. There's only one soul in all the world that can be forged into the Boulder Breaker. If that soul already inhabits a Boulder Breaker, like the one you've got there, I can't make another one. Understood?

I can sense the spirit of the Boulder Breaker somewhere out there. There's only one soul in all the world that can be forged into the Boulder Breaker. If that soul already inhabits a Boulder Breaker, I can't make another one. Understood?

This is the large sword that Daruk carried with him. He always held it as though it was light as a feather, but I believe it is actually a Boulder Breaker he had custom-made to be twice as heavy as normal! Not only that, but when he became a Champion, he increased its weight even more. Hmm... There is a certain symbolism in this. Daruk was bold and friendly, but he carried an incredible weight without concern or complaint." — Voice Memories (Zelda Notes, US, June 5, 2025) - ↑
That's a custom-made product called the Boulder Breaker—a historic weapon that is venerated among us Gorons. But currently it's nothin' more than a hunka junk till it's completed. It's fragile, so don't touch it!
— Rohan (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Master Rohan! Please let me try making the Boulder Breaker again!
— Fugo (Tears of the Kingdom)You've got some gall, kid. After you up 'n' left the workshop in the middle of training few some marbled rock roast whatsit! I'm done with you!
— Rohan (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Well, you've got yer enthusiasm, and that counts for somethin'. But without materials, how do you intend to do this? You'll need a cobble crusher, five pieces of flint, and three diamonds to complete it. Since you spent all our material funds on marbled rock roast, we're dried up! We don't have money OR materials.
— Rohan (Tears of the Kingdom)Ugh. I... I'll just, uh... Do something. About that.
— Fugo (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Now I can make the Boulder Breaker for you... Uh, is there...something stuck to this cobble crusher? Well, shoot. If it's anything other than just a pure cobble crusher, I can't use it as a material. If you're willing to provide it, then I'd gift ya with a bona fide Boulder Breaker. So, yeah, please, bring me a pure cobble crusher without anything attached to it.
— Fugo (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
[I'll give you the materials!] What! You'll just GIVE them to me? Thank you! I was at a total loss—this is a huge help! You... You really have it all?! Wah! Thank you! Now I can make a good 'n' proper Boulder Breaker! Master Rohan! Watch me do this! I'm gonna complete the Boulder Breaker, and it's gonna be perfect! I'll put my heart into it—pound it into life!
— Fugo (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Hm... Mm-hmmm. I don't even need to touch it to know. That rocky luster. That well-crafted handle. That blunt yet sturdy edge. You've done good, Fugo. I've seen many a Boulder Breaker in my time, but this? This is one of the finest.
— Rohan (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
And you! You helped too! Without the materials, I'd never have been able to do this. As thanks, I'd like for you to have this Boulder Breaker.
— Fugo (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
My customers are my top priority! That means you should come back here if it breaks on ya. I'll need materials, but I'll make it again just as good as before!
